COLUMBUS — Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer spoke with reporters following practice Wednesday evening. He answered questions about his football team and provided personnel updates. The Buckeyes travel to Maryland this weekend to take on a 5-5 Terrapin team that needs one more win for bowl eligibility. Here are the highlights of what Meyer had to say.
+ Asked if he is deliberate in his body language on the sidelines, Meyer said he doesn’t think of it at all.
+ Meyer thinks they are taking enough deep shots. Early on he thought they were maybe taking too many. He’ll check, but he thinks they’re taking enough.
+ Mickey Marotti does a good job of preparing the team and the staff gets the team to bed early. “I like the energy that we’ve had the past few noon games.”
+ Baron Browning won’t be cleared to play this week due to an injury. Everybody else is good to go.
+ The recruitment of Dwayne Haskins was a unique situation. Ohio State had an early commitment at quarterback in Tristen Wallace. Wallace then decided he didn’t want to be a quarterback and decommitted. They had maintained contact with Haskins throughout.
+ On Chris Olave: “Boy, he’s going to be good.” He is way ahead of schedule on special teams too. He is tough, smart, and mature for his age.
+ Maryland is a very talented team. They play an off 4-I on defense. They are multiple in what they do. They are fast.
+ Offensively, the shifts and motions make Maryland difficult to defend.
