Ohio State’s 2020 recruiting class just added its third offensive lineman.
Jakob James is a tackle rated as a 3-star prospect out of Cincinnati’s Elder High School. He stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 275 lbs.
He’s likely to slide inside to guard at the college level.
The Buckeyes offered him a scholarship on Monday and James jumped on it immediately. He announcing his commitment on Twitter Monday night.
“It is an honor and privilege that I have grown up learning about, having family that have both worn the Scarlet and Grey and are fans as well,” he wrote.
He joins 5-star tackle Paris Johnson and 4-star guard Luke Wypler as linemen in the 2020 class.
James is rated as the No. 69 tackle in the 2020 class and the 630th-best prospect overall.
The line is a major position of need in the 2019 and 2020 classes for the Buckeyes. At the time he committed, the Bucks had only 11 offensive linemen on the roster and signed for the 2019 class.
They will likely add at least one or two more on Signing Day, but the position may end up being their top focus for 2020 as well.
James plays left tackle for the Panthers, a Cincinnati-area powerhouse. It’s the same school that produced former Buckeye long-snapper Jake McQuaide, who is about to play in the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams.
Elder went 8-5 last year, making it to the third round of the Ohio High School Playoffs.
