McGowan (5-11 200) is the No. 10 running back in the 2020 class according to the 247Sports Composite and the No. 109 player overall. He is the No. 16 player in Texas.
Ohio State offered last May.
McGowan rushed for 1,614 yards on 218 rush attempts (7.4 ypc) last season as a junior, scoring 25 touchdowns. He rushed for over 100 yards eight times.
As a sophomore, McGowan rushed for 1,027 yards in seven games, with half of that coming in consecutive games where he rushed for 297 and 226 yards, respectively.
McGowan is a choppy runner who can maintain a carry through a tackle. He is hard to bring down and has the speed to break big gains. There isn’t much hesitation in his game, which means he gets upfield quickly and then is prepared for the physicality he is running into.
Ohio State already has a commitment from Arizona running back Darvon Hubbard, who committed back in July. Hubbard is the No. 16 tailback in the nation.
The Buckeyes have offered a large number of running backs, including 5-star California prospect Kendall Milton, who has previously included Ohio State in his top group.
Given that OSU already has one running back committed and are still out there working on others, it is clear that they are looking for more than just one tailback in the 2020 class. They have cast a wide next around the nation, offering running backs from California to Florida and nearly everywhere in between.
