Nation’s No. 1 Safety Jordan Morant Visits Ohio State

Four-star safety Jordan Morant took an unofficial visit to Ohio State on Monday.

The trip comes a few weeks after he released a Top 10 that included the Buckeyes, USC, Texas A&M, Penn State, Michigan, Clemson, Miami, Alabama, Notre Dame, and LSU.

Morant (6-1 195) is 247Sports’ No. 1 safety in the 2020 class and the No. 43 player overall.

In the Composite, he is the No. 8 safety and the No. 113 player in the nation.

Morant attends Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, New Jersey, which is the same high school that OSU redshirt freshman defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste attended.

As a junior last season, Morant put up 36 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and three pass break ups.

Monday’s visit to Ohio State comes a few days after Morant visited Michigan and Notre Dame in consecutive days.

With seven projections made so far, Penn State seems to be the slight favorite.

As a junior last season, Morant put up 36 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and three pass break ups. He allowed just two completions of more than 10 yards. Morant was named Second-Team All-State for the second year in a row.

Ohio State finally got their first defensive commitment in the 2020 class 10 days ago when Florida defensive back Lejond Cavazos re-committed.

The Buckeyes will hit the secondary hard during this recruiting cycle because they didn’t sign any cornerbacks in 2019 and they will need to bolster the Bullet position.

Morant, already listed at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, could fit into that hybrid role like fellow New Jersey native Jabrill Peppers did at Michigan.

Ohio State is scheduled to host 4-star Illinois defensive end Rylie Mills on an official visit this weekend. Mills (6-5 275) is ranked the No. 7 strongside defensive end in the 2020 class and the No. 120 player overall.

Maryland defensive lineman Bryan Bresee — the No. 1 player in the class — will be announcing his commitment on Tuesday, April 23. Clemson is expected to be the winner there.
