Kendall Sheffield Selected By Falcons In Fourth Round

Former Ohio State cornerback Kendall Sheffield was selected Saturday in the fourth round by the Atlanta Falcons with the 111th pick overall.

The Falcons traded up six spots in order to select Sheffield.

He becomes the the seventh Buckeye cornerback drafted in the last six years. Five of those seven were selected in the first round.

Sheffield transferred to Ohio State from Blinn College in 2017 and was part of OSU’s cornerback rotation for each of the last two seasons.

Sheffield began his career at the University of Alabama.

A starter in all 14 games last season, Sheffield earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten accolades. He finished with 35 tackles last season and was second on the team with two interceptions.

Sheffield broke up eight passes last season as well.

In 2017, he started three games while rotating with Damon Arnette and Denzel Ward.

He finished that season with 40 tackles and nine passes broken up.

Sheffield holds the Ohio State indoor track record with a time of 6.663 seconds.


Kendall Sheffield Bio: Kendall Sheffield had a two-season career with the Buckeyes after transferring from Blinn College, in Brenham, Texas, in the spring of 2017 … he was a starting cornerback for all of 2018 and was an honorable mention all-Big Ten Conference performer … he made 14 starts as a fourth-year junior in 2018 and recorded team highs in both pass break-ups with eight and passes defended with 10 … recorded interceptions vs. Rutgers and Minnesota … had a career-best five solo tackles in the Rose Bowl victory over Washington … he played on back-to-back Big Ten championship teams at Ohio State, in 2017 and 2018, and made a total of 17 starts while playing in all 28 games … in the summer of 2018 he was selected by NFL.com as the fastest player in college football … this after he broke the Ohio State school record and the French Field House indoor record in the 60-meter dash in February with a time of 6.663 … the previous record had stood for 23 years … Sheffield had a fine sophomore season with the Buckeyes in 2017, playing in all 14 games and ranking second on the team – to Denzel Ward, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft – in pass break-ups with nine … also contributed 40 tackles on the season … his three starts included in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl against USC and Sam Darnold … earned game “champion” status from the OSU coaches for his Cotton Bowl efforts, including breaking up a career-best four passes, making three solo tackles and forcing a fumble that led to the first Buckeye touchdown in the 24-7 victory … recorded 28 PBUs and 32 passes defended in his three seasons on the collegiate level … Sheffield was majoring in human development and family studies when he elected to forego his senior season and make himself available for the 2019 NFL Draft.
