Buckeye Weekly Podcast — Ryan Day’s Likes and Dislikes Following Scrimmage No. 1

Buckeye Weekly Ohio State Football Buckeyes Podcast

In this episode of the Buckeye Weekly podcast, Tony Gerdeman and Tom Orr discuss Ohio State’s first scrimmage of fall camp. Ryan Day had some good things to say about his defense — particularly Baron Browning, and some not great things to say about his offense. The fellas talk about all of it and then answer some listener questions.

The Rundown

We are live from the Ohio State scrimmage aftermath.

What did Tom think of the scrimmage?

Sadly, Tom couldn’t break down the fourth wall.

We may have learned some things today.

But first we’ll have to go back and watch the film.

 Piecing together the clues.

Sevyn Banks had a pick six, but against whom?

 Let’s do the math!

Ryan Day is happy with the defensive line right now.

But he also said a name.

 One name.

 Who was that name?

It was Baron Browning, which is good to hear.

Has the light finally switched on for Browning?

 Give Al Washington some credit.

Happy noises are all we have to go on right now.

Don’t try to put too much stock in the order of the players right now.

 Austin Mack update injury.

If it’s brown, drink it down.

Trying to decipher the depth chart through flashing images.

Tom says the linebackers are better than they were last year and hasn’t even seen them play yet!

Is Ryan Day too happy and too upbeat?

Where are the issues for Ryan Day so far?

Backup running back is still an issue.

 So is quarterback.

He is no closer after today in knowing who his starter is going to be.

He was hoping to know more by now.

There will be one more week until Day and Yurcich start really ramping up the analysis.

 But it’s only quarterback.

Jameson Williams lost his stripe earlier in the week.

Could be a weapon as a punt blocker.

The battle at right tackle is neck and neck.

Ryan Day says he will rotate offensive linemen if more than five deserve to play.

We’ll believe it when we see it, but getting snaps for both Branden Bowen and Nicholas Petit-Frere would be a good thing.

Tony thinks this offensive line is going to be good because they talk a lot.

This is a confident group that seems like they know exactly what they’re doing.

Day loved the energy from the defense.

There are a lot of reasons why this defense is playing with such energy.

 The defense is creating turnovers.

You get the sense that a lot of people on this defense were asked to do stuff they didn’t like doing.

This is a prideful group of defenders looking to avoid repeating disappointments from last year.

 Listener questions.

How will the offensive plays get called this year.

Tom breaks down how we record this show.

How many 3-and-outs should the defense average this season?

Would Ryan Day ever favor a night game for Michigan.

Will anything top last week’s distraction.

 That’s it, we’re done!
