Buckeye Weekly Podcast — Inside Ohio State’s Hidden Battle for Greatness

Buckeye Weekly Ohio State Football Buckeyes Podcast

In this episode of the Buckeye Weekly podcast, Tony Gerdeman and Tom Orr talk about Ryan Day’s biggest worry right now — complacency. The Buckeyes look like a well-oiled machine, but all of the talk on Tuesday was how they could be so much better if they clean up their mistakes. Is this a one-week battle because of the opponent, or is this setting up for something more? The fellas also go over everything that was said during a loaded interview session featuring Ryan Day, Mike Yurcich, Al Washington, Robert Landers, Wyatt Davis, Justin Fields, and the most underappreciated man in Buckeye Nation — Damon Arnette. All of this and much more.

The Rundown

Just got done with a loaded Tuesday session of interviews.

Tom isn’t impressed with Tony’s memory.

 Wyatt Davis is my birthday.

 Robert Landers is my anniversary.

Ryan Day was in a bit of a mood today.

The talk from everyone was that there is still a lot to improve upon.

 Film tells no lies.

Was Ryan Day legitimately concerned or was it just coaching?

Day is treating this seriously, but it feels like a psychology thing.

Lots of woulda, coulda, shouldas from last week’s game.

Tom compares this weekend’s game to synchronized skating. Again.

 Can the Buckeyes skate backwards?

The only thing that made Ryan Day smile today was talking about Chris Olave.

 Everybody loves Chris.

 Even BB loves Olave.

This passing game is consistent already and is only going to get better.

The offense has been good, but not insane.

That’s probably because of the lack of a fourth quarter for the starters, right?

The lack of a backup quarterback also hurts the stats.

But stats are for losers, so who cares?

 “Stats are for people.”

Justin Fields has some street cred to him now.

Fields is now a leader, but he’s not sure when it happened.

He’s gonna need to be a leader on the road next week.

Are they already preparing for the trip to Nebraska?

 Al Washington, pyromaniac.

 The linebackers are good.

Chris Olave stands out among a team full of standouts.

Other leaders are talking about Justin Fields as a leader.

The improvements in techniques for players may be minutiae, but it’s the difference in the game.

None of the starting offensive linemen want to be the first non-champion.

This offensive line is setting up to have success against the elite defensive lines in the nation.

This is as equipped as the offensive line has been in years.

 Let’s talk about Damon Arnette.

Arnette shouts out his math teacher who let him eat lunch in class.

Damon Arnette is unique, and that’s good.

This was a very mature Damon Arnette today.

The pick six was the biggest play in his life, but it is only the first step.

He understands why fans get mean.

Watch this video and if you don’t like Damon Arnette more than you did before, then you might want to get that checked out.

He’s also playing very good football, by the way.

Make good use of the clean slate, because the players are.
