WATCH: Buckeyes Discuss 52-3 Win Over Northwestern

Ohio State football coach Ryan Day

Another week, another blowout win for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

This time, OSU throttled Northwestern, 52-3 in front of tens of thousands of Buckeye fans in Ryan Field.

The Buckeyes started a little slowly, but then exploded for 24 points in the second quarter to take a 31-3 halftime lead.

They cruised from there, giving a number of young players a chance to see extended game action.

After the game, there was a lot to talk about. There was the OSU rushing attack, which saw three different players break off runs of 50+ yards.

There was also the OSU passing game, which connected for five touchdowns on the evening.

The OSU defense basically erased Northwestern’s passing attack, limiting the ‘Cats to just six completions on the evening.

And even the Buckeye special teams were exciting, as kicker Blake Haubeil nailed a 55-yard field goal just before halftime.

  1. Put it on film and make the next opponent understand that if they blanket the X, then the H&Y are going to shred them. Lock them down and the RB’s and the TE’s will will break their hearts. Blanket them all and the most dynamic backfield in CFB (including Master) will mangle them. Coach Meyer always talked about making defenses cover the entire width and length of the field. In 2018 they weren’t able to take the belly out of defenses with a sub par rush game. This year every inch of the field is being stressed on defenses.

I don’t envy opponents DC and D position coaches having to game plan this Buckeye offense.

Overall this team has something last years team lacked. A dominant offensive line. I watched Dawand just eviscerate the entire NU defensive front. Having done that he charged down the field to celebrate with Master. It was beautiful to watch that. Bad news Big 10…….Dawand is just a growing boy working to become a man. THEN the lights come on. The Buckeyes face a real test (aren’t they all?) in a really huge game. Down 5 points with the ball inside the opponents redzone and the clock ticking down. Lining up at Fullback is not a refrigerator or a redwood tree, but Mt. Kilimanjaro Dawand Jones lead blocking behind an already dominant offensive line, JK, Master, Marcus, or the darned equipment manager. You know JK is coming but there just won’t be anything the defense can do about the inevitability of a winning score by the Buckeyes. FTR. Dawand could cradle William the Fridge in his arms like a new born baby. Damn I like what I see out of that young man. Relatively speaking…….Watching Dawand stand next to Thayer was like looking at JK next to Josh Myers. Lord have mercy by the time Coach Mick has Dawand “trimmed” and even quicker and stronger than he already is.
