Per FootballScoop, Kevin Wilson Could Be Offered Colorado State Job, Urban Meyer Involved

According to a report on Tuesday from FootballScoop, Colorado State could be on the verge of offering Ohio State co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Kevin Wilson their open head coaching position.

Colorado State fired head coach Mike Bobo last week.

One of the first names to emerge as a candidate for the Rams was current Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford, who is a Colorado State alum. Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer reportedly campaigned for Alford soon after the job came open. Meyer was once a Colorado State assistant coach for six years in the 1990s under Earle Bruce and Sonny Lubick.

Over the last few days, former Tennessee head coach Butch Jones had emerged as the favorite, but Meyer has apparently stepped in again to tout another of his former assistants — this time Kevin Wilson.

Wilson has been an offensive coordinator at Ohio State since 2017. His arrival coincided with current Buckeye head coach Ryan Day, and came about because of a 31-0 loss to Clemson in the 2016 playoffs. It was an outcome that Meyer said would never happen against at Ohio State.

Under Day and Wilson, the Buckeyes have led the Big Ten in scoring offense each season.

Prior to coming to Ohio State, Wilson was the head coach at Indiana from 2011-2016 and has expressed a desire to return to the head coaching ranks.

Wilson compiled a 26-47 record as Indiana’s head coach, leading the program to bowl games in each of his final two seasons. It was the first time in nearly 30 years that the Hoosiers made it to consecutive bowl games.

Wilson wasn’t on the sideline for that second bowl game, however, as he would resign following the regular season citing philosophical differences with IU athletic director Fred Glass.

  1. Here’s hoping Kevin Wilson gets what he wants. It seems like he’s been nothing but honorable at OSU. His impact has been obvious and strong. We don’t use the TEs as much as we could but they’ve play great. They were superbly recruited. His contribution to play calling and probably execution is top level.

Wilson was a great hire. He made an impressive contribution. Thank you, Kevin Wilson. Best wishes to you. Please stick around through the next two games.

  2. With Day at the helm I feel comfortable we will always be well coached on offense. Wilson is a great offensive coach and it was only a matter of time before he landed another coaching job… thing is, I have to wonder if being the OC at OSU isn’t a better gig than the Head Coach at a place like Colorado State? Just a thought… If Wilson returns to being a HC, I think he is worthy of a job like Lane Kiffin just got (Ole Miss). I could see Wilson at a mid-tier power 5 school.

  3. ah yes, the Diversity of Zero Tolerance by IU AD Fred Glass….

Impressed with Coach Wilson’s demeanor, tolerance, and patience at Ohio St.

IDK the salient details of what occurred at IU… just the usual smoke & mirrors by those claiming to know.

I’d like to see an off-season interview and/or report on what Coach Wilson has done here. TIA
