COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State continued fall camp Friday morning with its second practice of the preseason at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
Following practice, the Buckeyes spoke with the media about the start of camp, position battles, new teammates and what they’re looking to accomplish as the season approaches. Tight end Nate Roberts, safety Earl Little Jr., defensive end Kenyatta Jackson Jr. and running back Bo Jackson answered questions from reporters.

Bo Jackson
+ Jackson said running backs coach Carlos Locklyn is looking for one thing above all else from him: effort. Jackson said he is focused on working as hard as he can as he competes for playing time in a crowded running back room. That competition, Jackson emphasized, isn’t limited to himself and Isaiah West. Every running back in the room is competing for an opportunity.
+ Jackson confirmed that he is 100 percent healthy entering camp.
+ Jeremiah Smith’s grown as a leader and has become much more vocal with the team.
Earl Little Jr.
+ Little discussed the development of Devin McCuin and what he has seen from the receiver during camp. He said McCuin is physical when attacking and now needs to continue developing his confidence.
+ Little also talked about his relationship with Jaylen McClain. The two have taken on communication responsibilities in the secondary and talk every day as they continue building their relationship.
+ As for his own role, Little said there hasn’t been much change from the spring. He has continued moving around and doing a little bit of everything.
+ Little also discussed finding his voice as a leader. He said that started to develop toward the end of the spring before really taking off during the summer. With the responsibility the secondary carries, Little knows he needs to make his presence felt.
Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
+ Jackson has embraced his role as one of the veterans on Ohio State’s defensive line, saying he is focused on being himself, leading by example and doing his job at a high level.
+ He also discussed competing against offensive lineman Ian Moore. Jackson said Moore has the ability to be a starter and that he continues to build confidence each day.
+ Jackson had plenty of praise for Beau Atkinson, saying Atkinson has put in significant work behind the scenes. That work has helped Atkinson become more flexible, and Jackson said the results are beginning to show on the field.
+ While the defense might look complicated from the outside, Jackson said Matt Patricia keeps things simple internally, allowing them to play fast. That simplicity has also allowed Jackson to expand his role. After sacrificing some versatility last season, Jackson said he is now lining up in different fronts and positions and feels like he is able to play all over the defensive front.
+ Jackson also discussed the transition in leadership behind him. He said he trusted Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles and he now trusts the players behind him now because the standard has remained the same.
