4-Star Wide Receiver Jameson Williams Commits To Ohio State

Ohio State wide receiver commit Jameson Williams

Ohio State football just added an explosive playmaker to their 2019 recruiting class. Jameson Williams, a 4-star wide receiver from St. Louis verbally committed to the Buckeyes.

He made the announcement in a video that he posted to Twitter Friday afternoon.

Williams is ranked as the No. 24 wide receiver in the class and the 130th-best player overall.

He has good size, at 6-foot-2, but may need to take a year or two to add weight after enrolling at OSU. He is currently listed at just 169 lbs.

His speed and elusiveness mean he likely profiles as a “Z” receiver for Ohio State. That is the position played by current Buckeyes like Terry McLaurin and Johnnie Dixon.

He could also end up as an “H” receiver with players like Demario McCall, K.J. Hill, and Parris Campbell.

Williams’ stats were insane as a junior at Cardinal Ritter College Prep. Nearly half of his catches on the season went for touchdowns.

In all, he caught 36 passes for 1,062 yards and 15 scores. That works out to an average of 29.5 yards per reception.

As you can see in his highlight reel below, that wasn’t just a result of running past overmatched defensive backs for easy touchdowns, either.

He caught a number of short screen passes and then used his speed and agility to split defenders and turn those short throws into long gains.

Williams also scored three touchdowns on just seven kickoff and punt return attempts.

Williams is just the latest prospect in what has turned into a strong OSU recruiting pipeline into Missouri.

Current OSU freshmen Kamryn Babb and Cameron Brown both hail from the St. Louis area.

The best-known Buckeye from the Show Me State recently was running back Ezekiel Elliott. Another St. Louis native, Elliott signed with the Buckeyes in 2013.

Williams’ commitment gives Ohio State’s 2019 class a total of 15 members, from 11 different states. He is the second wide receiver to commit, after 5-star prospect Garrett Wilson.

The Buckeyes could sign as many as five players at the position in the class as they try to fill what will be a big hole on their roster.

Brian Hartline’s #Zone6 unit will lose McLaurin, Campbell, and Dixon after this season. Underclassmen like Hill, Austin Mack, and Binjimen Victor could also declare themselves eligible for the NFL Draft in January.

If you want a glimpse at what the wide receiver position could look like in a year or two, you can watch Williams’ junior season highlights below.

  1. Glad to see the commit. Hope Coach Hartline’s unit also loses the moniker, “Zone6”.
