Ohio State Football Fall Practice Insider — The Home Stretch and a Depth Chart

Ohio State Football Practice Buckeyes

COLUMBUS — The Ohio State football team was back on the practice field Saturday morning for their final practice of fall camp. It was also their final scrimmage of camp.

While the media wasn’t permitted to stick around for the scrimmage, there was an open viewing window of 30 minutes at the outset of practice.

That time was spent stretching and jogging, followed by some light work in position drills.

As usual, there wasn’t much to see, but there were some injury news of note.

Fourth-year junior linebacker Justin Hilliard was in an orange jersey, which still allows him to go through drills that aren’t of a more physical nature. Redshirt sophomore Tuf Borland was stretching and jogging just fine, but it sounds like it’s still very much up in the air if he will be ready for the season opener two weeks from this very moment.

Sophomore left tackle Thayer Munford is dealing with some kind of minor injury because he was spending his time on the side working with the ropes and getting some punch work in. He was joined by true freshman offensive tackle Max Wray, redshirt freshman nose tackle Jerron Cage, and redshirt freshman receiver Ellijah Gardiner.

Freshman safety Marcus Hooker was in a sling on his right arm and shoulder. Per a winking OSU spokesman, it’s a “foot injury.”

Sophomore defensive tackle Haskell Garrett was walking around the practice field, which is also indicative of some type of minor injury.

Fourth-year junior H-back K.J. Hill was fielding punts. The last time we saw him, he was working on the side due to an injury. Redshirt sophomore Demario McCall and redshirt junior C.J. Saunders were also returning punts.

There wasn’t a lot to see in terms of trying to put together a depth chart, but there was a decent look at the offensive line.

Piecing together the rest of the depth chart is guess work and deduction from Ryan Day’s open letter from Friday, but let’s try it anyway. Not all of the freshmen will be listed below, particularly on the defensive line, because we just haven’t seen much of anything in terms of a depth chart.

Here are a few more clips from practice.

If you wanted to watch Dre’Mont Jones and Larry Johnson do a bit of dancing, here you go.

Before I started filming, running backs coach Tony Alford was also getting in on the dousing of freshman running back Brian Snead. Eventually things settled.

While the players were stretching, defensive coordinator Greg Schiano was going around to certain players and sharing some words with them.
