A few weeks ago, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day announced the creation of The Ryan and Christina Day Fund for Pediatric and Adolescent Mental Wellness at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. It was done in an effort to provide funding for — and bring attention to — childhood and adolescent mental health. And not only improving the care…
Each year there are stories written about college football players being excited about the new offensive or defensive systems being installed. There are also stories written about players being excited about the long-time offensive or defensive systems in which they are currently playing. By their nature, college athletes are an optimistic group…
Good help can be hard to find. If you are Ohio State offensive line coach Greg Studrawa, however, you don’t have to look very hard. When it comes to making the Buckeye offensive line better, sure, Studrawa does quite a bit of coaching, but he also an entire defensive line on the other side of the line of scrimmage putting his players through a test on every snap.
Chase Young was forced to mature quickly as a sophomore last season. His life in a 3-man rotation at defensive end last year only lasted two and a half games. When Nick Bosa went down, Young had to step up.He ended up leading the Buckeyes with 15.5 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks. Young was named a Second-Team All-Big Ten honoree by the conference’s coaches.
It’s not often a team can say goodbye to Nick Bosa and still feel pretty good about their defensive ends. That’s Ohio State’s situation, and it was made easier by the fact that Bosa was gone from game three on last year, which forced everybody to grow up a bit more quickly. Now, every defensive end who played from Game Four…
The 2019 NFL Draft has come and gone, which means it is now time to speculate about the names you’ll be seeing in the 2020 NFL Draft. With Nick Bosa and Dwayne Haskins going in the first round this year, the Buckeyes have now had a player selected in the first round in each of the last four years. Can they make it five years in a row next year?
Ohio State entered last season with the trio of defensive ends Nick Bosa, Jonathon Cooper, and Chase Young expected to wreak havoc on opposing offenses. There was wreaking and there was havoc, and then Nick Bosa was lost for the season. Cooper and Young lost their ace in the hole and they were going to have to grow up fast.
After the Cotton Bowl following the 2017 season, Ohio State defensive end Chase Young — then finishing up his freshman season — was asked if he had a target number of sacks in mind for 2018. His response? “Me personally, right now it’s probably 10.5 sacks,” he said at the time. “TFLs, they’re going to come. I think 10.5 sacks.”
The early days of Ohio State’s Rushmen Package began in 2015. Designed to get the four best pass rushers on the field at the same time on passing downs, the Rushmen satisfied defensive line coach Larry Johnson’s desire to put as much pressure on the quarterback as possible. The Rushmen probably would have begun in 2014…
This a topic that I stole from the message board because I found it pretty interesting. In any given year there are certainly candidates to discuss, but this is especially true in the years when the Buckeyes have won a national championship. In 2014, you could make the argument for Ezekiel Elliott or Taylor Decker or Joey Bosa or Darron Lee…
School is underway at Ohio State, which means the Buckeyes’ early enrollees are getting their first real taste of what it is like to be an Ohio State football player. It’s a learning experience for all of them, so they rely on each other to get through it. They also rely on the veterans to show them the way. Zach Harrison was one of the most…
