Welcome back to the first Grumpy Old Buckeye of 2019. If you’re new to this column, welcome! The aim here is to be the voice of negativity, even when things are generally pretty great. I point out the things from each game that make me want to walk out onto my lawn in my bathrobe and yell at people about it.
Thursday morning, Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano met with the media, along with defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones, defensive ends Jonathon Cooper and Chase Young, and linebacker Tuf Borland. It was the first formal press conference in the lead-up to the game.
As a redshirt freshman in 2017, Dwayne Haskins showed glimpses of what he was capable of doing as Ohio State’s quarterback. He had his ups and downs and good and bad throughout the season. The Michigan game was his true coming out party and his performance in that game was a precursor of many great things yet to come.

In fact, I found myself, several times, looking at the score and thinking, “Oh, wow, Maryland’s…
Before I get into the recap and statistical projections, go ahead and allow yourself a nice, calm exhale. Ohio State did what we’ve been waiting on them to do for several weeks. They played, perhaps, their most complete game of the season and beat a ranked opponent on the road. Sure, they toppled Penn State, in…
The Ohio State offense has failed to score a touchdown on its last eight trips to the red zone, which is not a winning strategy no matter the opponent. The thing is, against the Buckeyes’ four weakest opponents this season — Oregon State, Rutgers, Tulane, and Indiana — they have been very good in the red zone, scoring…
