Chase Young came to Ohio State as 5-star prospect and the No. 7 player in the 2017 class overall. As a defensive end, Young arrived on campus looking the part, and nothing he showed in his true freshman season had anybody questioning the expectations that he brought with him. For about the first half of the season, Young had…
If you peruse your college football magazines this month, you’ll see a number of Buckeyes populating All-Big Ten and All-America lists. One of the Ohio State players on those lists, however, has yet to even start a game. Sophomore defensive end Chase Young is listed as a Third-Team All-B1G pick by Athlon and a…
Over the past four football seasons, we have witnessed many Ohio State football records fall. Joe Thomas Barrett IV entered the scene in 2014, saw the field for four consecutive seasons, and demolished the stat column. That’s what happens when you’re an intelligent, talented quarterback and lead an Urban Meyer offense for multiple years.
I am now in possession of two preseason college football magazines. My annual process is to buy Athlon’s B1G issue, because that’s usually the first one on the shelves. Then a week or two later, Lindy’s national magazine will appear, and I’ll purchase that one as well. Those two will then tide me over until Phil Steele’s tome…
Tyquan Lewis in the second round to Indianapolis. Sam Hubbard in the third round to Cincinnati. Jalyn Holmes in the fourth round to Minnesota. Three members of Ohio State’s defensive end rotation the last three seasons have gone off to the NFL, and now defensive line coach Larry Johnson has to find a way to not…
The Ohio State football roster featured just four scholarship defensive ends this spring, and that was thanks in part to a weight-loss plan for Jashon Cornell, who moved over to end from tackle. Reigning Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year Nick Bosa returned for his final spring as a Buckeye. He leads a very talented…
It may be a completely different topic, but the title of the documentary could be applied to the pending decision by Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and his coaching staff on who will be the starting quarterback for the 2018 season. More on that momentarily. Throughout the spring practices, I ranked position…
Nick Bosa had been telling anyone who would listen that Dre’Mont Jones was going to return for a fourth season with the Buckeyes. Jones, however, was never so sure. Heading into the 2017 season, Jones’ name was already populating mock drafts. Even though he didn’t put up the statistics in 2017 that he did in…
While the Ohio State quarterback competition is the talk of the town, those talks don’t really include the rest of the team. Regardless of who the quarterback is, everyone else still has their own jobs to do. Offensive linemen don’t worry about which quarterback they are protecting. Running backs don’t…
There is plenty of talk about the large number of receivers who return for the Buckeyes this season, and even a little bit of talk about sophomore Jaylen Harris who only had a couple of catches last season. There has been virtually no talk about redshirt freshman Ellijah Gardiner, however. But don’t worry. “Man, a whole…
At some point in the next week or two, a first-year Ohio State football player will likely join an exclusive club, becoming the first player in his class to lose his black stripe. Every season since Urban Meyer arrived in Columbus in 2012, first-year players in the Ohio State football program have started their careers with…
