If you were to poll random Ohio State football fans about what they are looking forward to seeing most this season from the Buckeyes, the name Chase Young would come up quite a bit. As a freshman last season, the former 5-star prospect played when games were rarely in doubt, but still finished fifth on the team…
How do you replace five former starting defensive linemen in one season? Well, it helps to recruit as well as Ohio State has over the years, and it also helps to have an assistant coach like Larry Johnson trying to make it happen. The Buckeyes lose three-fourths of their defensive end rotation with the departures of Sam…
The Buckeyes were back on the practice field on Thursday morning at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Unlike Tuesday, reporters were not allowed in to watch any of the action, but we did get to talk to the players and coaches from the defensive line and wide receiver units after it was over. Tony Gerdeman and Tom Orr…
It is rare that a team can lose three starting defensive ends in one offseason, and rarer still when people are excited about the talent that still remains. Ohio State will put three former 5-star defensive ends on the field this spring in Nick Bosa, Chase Young, and Jonathon Cooper, which would be the envy of most of the nation.
Tyquan Lewis has been a constant for the Ohio State defense over the previous three seasons. He was named the Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year following the 2016 season despite splitting reps in OSU’s defensive end rotation. He led the Buckeyes in sacks in 2015 and 2016, and finished second with 7.0 this past season…
The Buckeyes will have to replace 12 starters from the 2017 football team, and today begins a series on how Ohio State will go about replacing each of those valuable pieces. Up first is defensive end Sam Hubbard, who opted to forgo his final year of eligibility in order to enter the 2018 NFL Draft.
Chase Young might be the next big thing for the Ohio State defense. At 6-foot-5 and 260-odd pounds, he certainly passes the look test. As a true freshman this season, Young picked up 3.5 sacks and 6.0 tackles for loss. It was a productive season, and compares very favorably with Nick Bosa’s freshman season the year before when…
As an Ohio State fan, the 2017 season was rough. The quarterback position was a constantly-negative situation where one side felt very strong about J.T. Barrett’s abilities as a leader and the other side felt very strongly about his lack of abilities throwing the ball. It was a constant debate where neither side was going to be dissuaded…
The best thing about bowl games isn’t getting to see your team play one more time, it’s getting young players another month of practices to help them grow and get better in anticipation of helping out the following season. During the season, the practices are about implementing game plans and playing against the scout team…
The Ohio State defense doesn’t need freshman defensive end Chase Young on the field this season, but that hasn’t stopped defensive line coach Larry Johnson from playing him as much as any of the Buckeyes’ other defensive ends over the last four games. He could have redshirted and nobody would miss him. That’s not a slight against him…
