Ohio State cornerbacks have been very, very good to the NFL over the last 20 years or so, but they have really ramped it up since Urban Meyer and Kerry Coombs arrived. Over the last 21 years, the Buckeyes have produced 10 first-round draft picks at cornerback. In the spring, Denzel Ward is expected to make that 11 first rounders.
Every fall, Urban Meyer and his assistant coaches sit with high school football players and their families and explain the benefits of playing their college ball at Ohio State. The chance to be a part of the greatest rivalry in sports and play for championships is part of it. They sell the value of an OSU degree, the “Real Life Wednesdays” program…
Ohio State has announced the Players of the Game following Saturday’s impressive 48-3 victory over Michigan State. In his school-record 51st consecutive start, senior center Billy Price earned offensive player of the game for his efforts vs. the Spartans. Price was at the forefront of a rushing attack that put more yards on Mark Dantonio’s Michigan State…
A proud son of Ohio, hailing from Point Pleasant, former Civil War general and the 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant would be a strong advocate for as much advanced scouting of the enemy as possible before a battle was engaged. While I have the utmost confidence in Urban Meyer and his strong staff of assistants…
When a person is part of something special, they don’t ever really leave. Even when they move on, their legacy remains in place, providing a time-release reinforcement of what they helped to build. The legacy of cornerbacks at Ohio State goes back a long way, but it really picked up in the mid-1990s. In 1996, the Buckeyes…
There is no such thing as a timid cornerback. At least not for long. They’re like albino animals born in the wild. They don’t blend in very well to their surroundings and are soon exposed to predators who would mean them harm. At Ohio State, a Buckeye cornerback must possess supreme confidence. They have to know…
Once something is established, it’s hard to go away from it. That’s why Urban Meyer is so adamant about building the culture at Ohio State and relying on it to replenish itself year after year. One such recent establishment for the Buckeyes is the three-man rotation at cornerback. Finally born a year ago, cornerbacks…
Ohio State has now had two fall practices to further evaluate the handful of open positions waiting to be settled. Speaking at the Big Ten Media Days in Chicago one week ago, Urban Meyer talked about the current position battles as he saw them. We’ll run them down for you here. Redshirt sophomore Matt Burrell left the…
Anybody can look forward to 10 things, or 40 things, or 85 things, but it takes a special lot to look forward to 100 things. But you being Buckeye fans, and them being the Buckeyes, 100 things is just a drop in the bucket. Fortunately for all of us, 100 things is also the max that I can probably get away with throwing…
