Why did I rank the running backs as an area of low concern? In a theme similar to the previous position group ranking for defensive line, the returning talent and depth at the running back position group makes me comfortable going into the 2018 season. Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and running backs coach Tony…
As a true freshman in 2016, Demario McCall was a big play waiting to happen. He received snaps mostly during the end of blowouts, and was tasked with running headlong into the line of scrimmage in order to move the clock. When given an opportunity to expand his line of scrimmage horizons, however, he was one of the…
After the Indiana game when J.K. Dobbins burst onto the national scene, the consensus among Ohio State fans was that they wanted to see a heavy dose of Mike Weber and Dobbins in the same backfield. We saw a small glimpse of what could be against Nebraska when K.J. Hill aligned with Dobbins, but never did we see the formation…
Urban Meyer is now 6-0 against Michigan, but only 2-2 in the game following The Game. The Buckeyes got wins in 2014 against Alabama and 2015 against Notre Dame, but fell to Clemson in both 2013 and 2016. There are times — such as 2006 — when the emotions expended in the Michigan game is impossible to recapture.
First off, yes, this is the best name I could come up with for a standard “thoughts” piece that every writer does. I’m guessing nobody else has used this title though, so that’s good. The reason I wanted to write about the Ohio State receivers today is plentifold. Mainly, I just thought it would be good to talk about a position group…
Last year was not a banner season for the Ohio State punt return game. As a team, the Buckeyes returned 27 punts for 139 yards, which equates to a paltry 5.2 yards per return. Illinois was the only team in the Big Ten with a worse average in 2016. Ohio State managed just one punt return of over 20 yards, which was the lowest…
Saturday marked the first official scrimmage of fall camp for the Ohio State Buckeyes, and while the media was only permitted to watch three periods of warmups, there was an increased energy from the coaches on the day. While the team was stretching, both Zach Smith and Kevin Wilson were talking to Malcolm Pridgeon…
They say when you have two quarterbacks, you don’t have one. When you have two running backs, however, you should probably use them. More and more in both college and professional football, the running game is being split between two running backs, which keeps the wear and tear from building up too much…
I just realized that splitting up this 100 Things into 10 pieces means that I have to come up with 10 separate intros. Intros are not my favorite things, and so sometimes I don’t put as much thought into them as I should. This intro, for instance, is probably going to be my worse one ever. But then I remember that I still have…
Looking forward is the best. It’s fun, it brings about great conversations, and it’s the only way to fly. We are already looking forward to so much this Buckeye football season, but there is still plenty more to come. We haven’t even gotten to the part about Kenny Guiton coming in as a mid-season hire to eventually save…
Anybody can look forward to 10 things, or 40 things, or 85 things, but it takes a special lot to look forward to 100 things. But you being Buckeye fans, and them being the Buckeyes, 100 things is just a drop in the bucket. Fortunately for all of us, 100 things is also the max that I can probably get away with throwing…
