Before anyone gets any ideas that this article is going to include a DeLorean that can double as a time machine, I can tell you that the answer is no. I did not rely upon Marty McFly or Dr. Emmett Brown for going back in time, but I am going to use the example illustrated in the “Back To The Future” movie series to…
When you look at what the Ohio State offense could be this season, it starts with the personnel. New quarterbacks may be the first thing you see, but surrounding them are experienced playmakers. As long as the offensive line solidifies, whoever starts at quarterback for the Buckeyes is going to have plenty to work with.
The Buckeyes return 209 of their 212 receptions by wide receivers from last season, which gives you a pretty good idea of the depth that Ohio State has at the position. Even with this much experience returning, however, there are still question marks. The Buckeyes may have had twice as many 50-yard completions (8) as…
Now that we know the Ohio State spring game is officially going to happen on Saturday, it’s time to talk about what we’re looking forward to seeing. We talked about it for a good hour on Accost the Field this week, but since not everybody is the listenin’ type, I thought I’d break a few of the areas down that I’ll be watching.
Demario McCall was a prolific running back at North Ridgeville High School prior to coming to Ohio State. As a junior, he rushed for 2,302 yards and earned First-Team All-State accolades. In fact, in one game against Elyria Catholic, he rushed for 445 yards and six touchdowns. He finished with 4,519 yards rushing in his…
Urban Meyer said this spring that the Ohio State receivers were good last year, but this year they need to be elite. With every contributor returning from last season, if the group does not show improvement this season, that would be a gigantic disappointment. As a group, the Buckeyes’ top six receivers combined…
One of the differences between Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer’s football philosophies is that Meyer has chosen to have more offensive linemen on the roster than Tressel generally had. When he arrived at OSU, Meyer set about increasing the annual number of scholarship linemen per year by a couple, which gives the coaches…
When the Buckeyes returned the vast majority of their receivers from last season, they entered 2018 way ahead of the curve. Because there are established playmakers at each of the three receiver positions, there won’t be much of a learning curve to deal with. And the deepest of the three receiver spots appears to…
Urban Meyer hasn’t had a player return a kickoff for a touchdown since wide receiver Andre Debose did it twice in 2010. That was Meyer’s final season as the head coach of the Florida Gators. It also happened to be the last season that Ohio State football had a kickoff return for a touchdown as well. That touchdown was…
The Buckeyes have held two spring practices and will now take the next 10 days off for spring break. They will get back at it on Monday, March 19, and stay at it until the Spring Game on April 14. To this point, the media has been allowed to watch the first hour of the first practice, and we have spoke with Urban Meyer, defensive…
The Buckeyes were back on the practice field on Thursday morning at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Unlike Tuesday, reporters were not allowed in to watch any of the action, but we did get to talk to the players and coaches from the defensive line and wide receiver units after it was over. Tony Gerdeman and Tom Orr…
