We did it, everyone! We beat Nebraska! I’m just going to convince myself that this is the mid-90s and that our local team pulled off a stunning 36-31 victory over the Cornhuskers! It sounds better than, “We did it! We beat a team that’s now 2-7 while continuing to make a lot of the same mistakes…
Welcome back, friends. In case you’re new to the Grumpy Old Buckeye, this column aims to be the voice of negativity, even when things are generally pretty great. I’ll point out the things from each game that make me want to walk out onto my lawn in my bathrobe and yell at people about it. This week, with tongue planted firmly…
Not having starting free safety Jordan Fuller on the field on Saturday was less than ideal for the Buckeyes. The results spoke for themselves as the safeties struggled on an afternoon where the Ohio State defense gave up 31 points to Oregon State’s backup quarterback. Fuller is not only a great tackler, but gets the secondary…
Every season brings new breakout stars in college football, which is one of the reasons we all love it so much. And while the stars get the attention, every team needs different players to step up and fill voids. They aren’t necessarily looking at these players to become stars, they just need them to be reliable and productive.
The No. 8 player on this list is one of the most explosive offensive players on the roster, but has dealt with depth chart issues and injuries over his first two years. Fully healthy now, big things are expected for a player still coming into his own. When given an opportunity with the football early in his career, Demario McCall has…
We are a mere three days away from fall camp starting. I tend to get a little excited every year but this year seems different. The Buckeyes lost a bunch of big name players, but there just seems to be up-and-coming five-star after up-and-coming five-star ready to step in. Take a look at the defensive line where Ohio State lost…
Coming into this season, I was a little worried how the Ohio State wide receiver room would shake out. I thought for sure Parris Campbell and Johnnie Dixon were gone to the NFL draft. Along with them, I would not have been shocked if K.J. Hill and Terry McLaurin left as well. You add these four guys to the loss of tight…
We are now embarking on a new era in Ohio State football. One where a Buckeye quarterback isn’t necessarily the first option inside the 10-yard line. Maybe. With J.T. Barrett’s departure, I got to thinking about what this was going to mean for touchdown production in 2018. We all know that Dwayne Haskins won’t…
Over the past four football seasons, we have witnessed many Ohio State football records fall. Joe Thomas Barrett IV entered the scene in 2014, saw the field for four consecutive seasons, and demolished the stat column. That’s what happens when you’re an intelligent, talented quarterback and lead an Urban Meyer offense for multiple years.
Demario McCall showed flashes of potential as a freshman in 2016. Even though he basically only carried the ball while pointed up the middle in blowouts, McCall was still able to rush for 270 yards and catch four passes for 84 yards. He even worked his way up the depth chart to become Mike Weber’s backup. However, considering…
