With the 12 carries two weeks ago at Nebraska, Ohio State freshman running back J.K. Dobbins has now recorded exactly 100 carries on the season. He sits at 100 rushes for 775 yards. That’s a pretty good start, isn’t it? In fact, it’s so good I began wondering if any Buckeye had ever had a better start. Turns out, they haven’t.
Admittedly, I was late to jump on the “Hype Train” that was J.K. Dobbins. I just couldn’t wrap my head around a freshman running back making such an impact at this stage in his career. But here we are, seven weeks into his career and he has rushed for 775 yards on 100 carries. He currently sits 11th nationally in rushing yards…
When talking about running back tandems, the term “Thunder and Lightning” is the standard cliche always thrown about. A big bruiser complemented by a speedy counterpart. Together, their wonder twin powers combine to form one pretty good running back. At Ohio State, something similar — but different — is brewing on the horizon.
Coaches don’t like to gamble on players because those losses can last for four or five years. In recruiting, college football coaches don’t take flyers on prospects unless it’s the eleventh hour and they need to fill a spot or two. And even then it’s an informed decision based on as much senior film as possible. This process isn’t any…
J.K. Dobbins isn’t the average true freshman running back. He isn’t one to bask in the spotlight that comes with being Ohio State’s starting running back. He doesn’t show extreme confidence that could be confused for hubris. He’s a team-first guy, crediting his offensive line, wide receivers and tight end for blocking in front of him.

The Buckeyes look to get back on the winning side of things by taking on America this week. It is difficult for me to relate to losing, however, as I rarely experience failure. I began the season getting four of five predictions correct. Unfortunately, I do not have any way of going back in time to find out what my predictions were last…
Ohio State fifth-year senior quarterback J.T. Barrett was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week by the conference on Monday, and true freshman running back J.K. Dobbins earned the Big Ten Freshman of the Week nod as well. With a 5-yard pass completion to H-back K.J. Hill on the second play from scrimmage…
Ohio State went into the half against Indiana trailing 14-13. It was the second-straight time they had trailed at the half in Bloomington. The last time was 2015, and they needed 200 yards rushing in the second half from Ezekiel Elliott to hold onto a 34-27 victory. This time out things were much easier, however.
Thanks to lingering hamstring issues for starter Mike Weber, freshman running back J.K. Dobbins got the start for the Buckeyes in his first career game Thursday night and set an Ohio State freshman-debut record with 181 yards rushing. He kept the Buckeye offense going in the first half when the passing game was struggling.
