Saturday’s game against Penn State is the biggest test for Ohio State since they faced Oklahoma at home in week two. That game did not go well for the Buckeyes, which makes this game even bigger. There is no margin for error here, which has put quite a bit of pressure on the Buckeyes. Some teams love pressure, while others simply can’t handle it.
By every meaningful statistical measure, Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett had his worst game of the season in the Buckeyes’ 31-16 loss to Oklahoma. His .543 completion percentage was his lowest, as were his 183 yards passing and 5.2 yards per attempt. It was the only game where he didn’t throw a touchdown and the only game where…
The topic isn’t going to go away until the Ohio State offense makes it go away. Even though we are now speeding toward November, the only two games in the recent past that have mattered to most were last year’s loss to Clemson and this year’s loss to Oklahoma. No other games can get a word in edgewise — and certainly not any of the games this year.
The biggest game in the Big Ten this weekend takes place Saturday night in Happy Valley as No. 2 Penn State hosts No. 19 Michigan. The Nittany Lions are looking to stay undefeated while the Wolverines are looking to keep their division title hopes alive. Ohio State, meanwhile, has the week off and many of the Buckeyes will be watching the game…
J.T. Barrett is the Davey O’Brien national quarterback of the week. The honor comes in the wake of his terrific performance Saturday versus Nebraska that previously earned him the Big Ten Conference offensive player of the week award as well as the Rose Bowl Game’s Big Ten player of the week, and recognition as a Manning Award star of the week.
Lincoln, Nebraska is a long way to go for work, but it’s easy enough to find if you know where to look. If you’re an Ohio State punter, however, don’t bother. Drue Chrisman didn’t punt at all Saturday night, though he did hold on eight extra points. Of course, that’s like asking an architect to paint a bedroom wall, so it hardly counts. “I did talk to Drue…
The Nebraska defense had absolutely no answer for a Buckeye offense that was nearly perfect behind the leadership and play of quarterback J.T. Barrett. Ohio State’s first three drives went for 97, 85 and 75 yards respectively, all ending in touchdowns and set the tone of total domination the rest of the way. The Buckeyes put 21 points…
Here is the Run/Pass Mix through the first half of the regular season. Please note: SACKS are included in the passing totals, as they are passing plays that went awry. Unfortunately there is no easy way to push quarterback scrambles for positive yards to the passing total without hand charting each play. This is all taken from the box scores and play-by-play data.
