Ohio State football’s official Twitter account has release more clips from Wednesday’s action on the practice field, and a pair of true freshmen have been the focus. In the first clip below, freshman cornerback Sevyn Banks comes off of his receiver in order to go back and intercept a tipped pass from walk-on quarterback Kory Curtis.
Ohio State signed one of the nation’s top recruiting classes in 2018, and one of the top signees was Westerville, Ohio H-back Jaelen Gill. Gill (6-1 182) played both running back and wide receiver in high school, which is one of the reasons he is an ideal fit at H-back in the Buckeyes’ offense. Even though things are…
Last season, 14 different Buckeyes on the offensive side of the ball scored touchdowns. That’s the most since that same number in 2013. Of those 14, 11 are back, and there are another dozen players looking for their first steps into the end zone this year as well. There are, of course, 100 yards separating end zones, and plenty…
Jaelen Gill came to Ohio State from faraway Westerville South High School, which is about a 20-minute drive from the north rotunda of Ohio Stadium. Gill, who grew up a Buckeye fan, was the No. 30 player overall in the 2018 recruiting class and the No. 2 all-purpose back in the nation. As a sophomore, he rushed for…
When you look at what the Ohio State offense could be this season, it starts with the personnel. New quarterbacks may be the first thing you see, but surrounding them are experienced playmakers. As long as the offensive line solidifies, whoever starts at quarterback for the Buckeyes is going to have plenty to work with.
When the Buckeyes returned the vast majority of their receivers from last season, they entered 2018 way ahead of the curve. Because there are established playmakers at each of the three receiver positions, there won’t be much of a learning curve to deal with. And the deepest of the three receiver spots appears to…
Why did I rank the running backs as an area of low concern? In a theme similar to the previous position group ranking for defensive line, the returning talent and depth at the running back position group makes me comfortable going into the 2018 season. Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and running backs coach Tony…
The annual showcase of future Ohio State Buckeyes known as the U.S. Army All-American Bowl takes place Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm on NBC, and eight different OSU signees will be playing, as will a number of targets and notables. Past Buckeyes such as Ted Ginn, Beanie Wells, and Terrelle Pryor have starred in the game.
Here is the thing about trying to point out five “Instant Impact” signees from Ohio State’s 2018 recruiting class — there is talented depth in front of each of them, and I think most of them could benefit greatly from a redshirt season. So we should probably dial back what we mean by “instant impact.” For this class — which is arguably…
Friday night was the start of the high school football season for most of the state of Ohio, so I ventured out to catch Ohio State running back commit Jaelen Gill and his Westerville South team take on Dublin Scioto. I don’t know what kind of team either school has this season, but it was clear that Scioto didn’t have enough, as Westerville South…
The event features a Nike Football Ratings Championship, which is essentially a combine that determines “high school football’s top athlete.” Last year, that winner was Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins. Teammate Jeffrey Okudah came in second. There is also the Final 5 Linemen Challenge, which features the top 20…
