The Buckeyes return 209 of their 212 receptions by wide receivers from last season, which gives you a pretty good idea of the depth that Ohio State has at the position. Even with this much experience returning, however, there are still question marks. The Buckeyes may have had twice as many 50-yard completions (8) as…
Now that we know the Ohio State spring game is officially going to happen on Saturday, it’s time to talk about what we’re looking forward to seeing. We talked about it for a good hour on Accost the Field this week, but since not everybody is the listenin’ type, I thought I’d break a few of the areas down that I’ll be watching.
With available room dwindling in Ohio State’s 2017 recruiting class, there was always a spot being held for Cleveland Heights wide receiver Jaylen Harris. No matter who else was coming aboard, Urban Meyer was going to wait as long as he had to for Harris to join OSU’s class. With about three weeks left until signing day…
Why did I rank the wide receivers as an area of low concern? Look at the group of players returning. They are bundant with redshirt seniors and juniors. The wide receivers come into 2018 with experience across the board. Looking at Ohio State’s 2017 season statistics, the only player with at least 10 receptions who will…
Today is the final day for college football’s underclassmen to declare for the NFL, and as long as nothing changes, the same group of Buckeye receivers who practiced during bowl prep will also be practicing during spring camp. In other words, the entire band is back together and they’re currently in the studio working on a new album for this fall.
First off, yes, this is the best name I could come up with for a standard “thoughts” piece that every writer does. I’m guessing nobody else has used this title though, so that’s good. The reason I wanted to write about the Ohio State receivers today is plentifold. Mainly, I just thought it would be good to talk about a position group…
One of the topics discussed in this week’s Accost the Field concerned J.T. Barrett the ball carrier. Namely, would we see him carrying the ball as much as he has in the past. Barrett carried the ball 205 times last season, which was 23 more times than leading rusher Mike Weber. He had four games of at least 20 carries, compared…
After months of writing about Ohio State football from April through July, when the media finally gets a chance to speak with head coach Urban Meyer, the question of which young players are stepping up will always be asked. That was the case again this week when Meyer was asked if there were any player or position group…
We are roughly two weeks away from Ohio State football camp opening, if you can believe it. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter by the day, and you can almost make out the desolate Bloomington farmscape taking shape. Yes, that is a Denny’s with a silo. And no, they don’t have pull tabs, that…
Every year, Urban Meyer goes through his roster and ranks his playmakers on offense. He writes down the players who need to get the football, and then sets out to make sure the offense follows through on his wishes. Every year, I do the same thing, but with a little less impact. Last year’s rankings had Curtis Samuel…
Back in February, I gave you five (or so) predictions for Ohio State’s 2017 early enrollees, so I thought it would be a good idea to do the same for the rest of the freshmen now that they are all on campus. I’m going to use the same topics that I did in February. I could say it was for clarity’s sake, but in reality it’s…
