I’m sitting here one day away from Ohio State’s kickoff and I just realized that I haven’t made any season predictions for the Buckeyes, or if I have, I have no recollection of it. I don’t want to start a dangerous precedent of not making season predictions because how else are you going to know how brilliant or stupid I am?
When a person is part of something special, they don’t ever really leave. Even when they move on, their legacy remains in place, providing a time-release reinforcement of what they helped to build. The legacy of cornerbacks at Ohio State goes back a long way, but it really picked up in the mid-1990s. In 1996, the Buckeyes…
Once something is established, it’s hard to go away from it. That’s why Urban Meyer is so adamant about building the culture at Ohio State and relying on it to replenish itself year after year. One such recent establishment for the Buckeyes is the three-man rotation at cornerback. Finally born a year ago, cornerbacks…
Last year was not a banner season for the Ohio State punt return game. As a team, the Buckeyes returned 27 punts for 139 yards, which equates to a paltry 5.2 yards per return. Illinois was the only team in the Big Ten with a worse average in 2016. Ohio State managed just one punt return of over 20 yards, which was the lowest…
Ohio State has now had two fall practices to further evaluate the handful of open positions waiting to be settled. Speaking at the Big Ten Media Days in Chicago one week ago, Urban Meyer talked about the current position battles as he saw them. We’ll run them down for you here. Redshirt sophomore Matt Burrell left the…
Ohio State football camp begins in three days. In fact, 72 hours from now, the first practice will have been over for nearly three hours. But we’ve still got some time to kill. For me, I’ve still got time to write these, and for you, you’ve still got time to read them. Soon, however, we won’t have time. Our hours will be consumed…
When I did the Top 10 playmakers on the Ohio State offense over the last month, I started everything by listing playmakers 11-20. It was pretty thin at the bottom. In fact, as I recall, there were technically only 22 players even eligible to be listed. To be a playmaker on offense, you have to touch the football. The requirements…
You can’t really take a walk down the internet without running into an NFL mock draft these days. And you almost can’t be a Buckeye without eventually having your name mentioned inside one of those drafts. Even though we’ve just hit our second week of summer, the mock draft season is year round. With that…
The Ohio State Buckeyes are the most-talented team in the Big Ten, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t question marks. No team is perfect. In fact, it’s overcoming their flaws that makes great teams unforgettable. Did the 2002 Buckeye offense have any business winning a national title? No. Did the 2014 defense…
Last season, Ohio State and Kerry Coombs started a movement. Sure, right now it’s a movement that may only be a party of one, but that doesn’t lessen its impact to that particular party. The Buckeyes rotated three cornerbacks last season, and did it very successfully. This spring, they went about replacing two of those corners…
