On December 4, Ryan Day was named Urban Meyer’s successor as the head football coach at Ohio State. That announcement began his quickly ticking clock towards the February signing day. Day had nine weeks to prepare for the Rose Bowl, put his staff together, ingratiate himself with the current players, get to know…
It is always easy to be enamored with the names at the top of a recruiting class, but what generally makes classes great are the names at the bottom who contribute well beyond their rankings. For instance, the six highest-ranked players in Urban Meyer’s first class at Ohio State were Noah Spence, Adolphus Washington, Tommy…
Wednesday was one of the most jam-packed days of interviews on the Ohio State beat that I can remember. The day started at 9:30 with each of the seven early enrollees — quarterback Justin Fields, running back Marcus Crowley, receiver Garrett Wilson, offensive tackle Ryan Jacoby, defensive ends Noah Potter and Zach Harrison, and…
The 2018 season quite likely saw the worst running game in Ohio State history. Eight times in 14 games, the Buckeyes were held under 4 yards per carry. They went the entirety of 2017 without doing it at all, and the only time it happened in 2016 was against Clemson. Eight times in 2018 alone. That’s the same number…
In yesterday’s Constitutional, I wrote about the possible captains in 2019 and received some responses that less was actually more. In other words, some people didn’t want to see a return to Urban Meyer’s preference of between 7-9 captains per year. They’d rather have fewer captains because apparently more is bad.
Ohio State had seven captains last season and lost five of them to the NFL.All four captains on offense — Parris Campbell, Johnnie Dixon, Terry McLaurin, and Isaiah Prince — are gone, as is Nick Bosa on defense. Returning are safety Jordan Fuller and linebacker Tuf Borland. All of this means…
As I always say, one of the best things about college football is that new stars emerge every year. Just think — a year ago at this time, you had never even heard of Dwayne Haskins. Okay, maybe that’s a bad example, but Haskins is an example of an Ohio State Buckeye earning a First-Team All-Big Ten nod in his first season as a starter.
Zach Harrison is Ohio State’s highest-ranked signee in the 2019 recruiting class, so it is natural to have high expectations for him right out of the gate. Harrison was ranked as the nation’s No. 2 strongside defensive end, the No. 12 player overall, and the top player in the state. And given his measurables, the expectations will…
Spoiler alert: Not this year. Most of you watched last night’s Ohio State basketball loss to Michigan, and those of you who did saw some absolutely terrible turnovers. It wasn’t the first time you have seen such turnovers and it isn’t going to be the last time. It would be one thing if these turnovers came from an opposing defense…
