Ohio State had to replace Dre’Mont Jones this spring, and while it won’t be easy, there are options. The Buckeyes had plenty of depth working this spring at both nose tackle and three technique, which is the position that Jones once played. Returning nose tackles Robert Landers and Davon Hamilton gives the Buckeyes tremendous experience…
Ohio State signed seven defensive linemen in the 2018 recruiting class. Four defensive ends and three defensive tackles. Four of the seven — ends Tyreke Smith and Tyler Friday and tackles Tommy Togiai and Taron Vincent — played decent minutes as freshmen last year. Ends Javontae Jean-Baptiste and Alex Williams redshirted, while tackle…
Yesterday, we looked at the six Buckeyes on offense who are set to breakout this spring, so now it’s time to give the same treatment to the defense. Most of last year’s Ohio State defense returns, which is a good thing as long as you don’t go poking your nose where it doesn’t belong (i.e. box scores, DVRs, and YouTube). A new defensive staff…
Dre’Mont Jones was a three-year starter at defensive tackle for Ohio State, bursting on the scene in 2016 as a redshirt freshman in place of starter Tracy Sprinkle, who suffered a season-ending injury in the first game of the year. Jones’ 44 tackles in conference play in 2016 was fourth-highest on the team. It was one more…
Taron Vincent came to Ohio State from the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He was ranked the No. 1 defensive tackle in the nation and the No. 20 player overall. Ohio State landed one of the top recruiting classes last year and arguably the biggest name signed was defensive tackle Taron Vincent. Vincent was the No. 1 defensive tackle in the class, playing at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and signed with OSU over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, and others. An active defender…
Earlier in the week we looked at which Buckeyes are most likely to redshirt this season. Now we delve into those freshmen who are more likely to see the field in more than just the four games allowed to anybody before losing a year of eligibility. The factors which make somebody more likely to play include whether or…
Three players officially became members in good standing of the Ohio State football program on Saturday. Freshman defensive tackle Taron Vincent, freshman running back Brian Snead, and sophomore walk-on quarterback Kory Curtis all lost their black stripes during the Buckeyes’ practice. The program announced the removals in an Instagram Story…
Listed at 6-foot-2 and 285 pounds, Taron Vincent will likely come in and focus on playing the three technique position on the interior. Vincent is the son of former NFL cornerback Troy Vincent, so he has been around football his entire life. He understands the game very well, and understands the leverage that his position requires.
Ohio State signed three highly-coveted defensive tackles in the 2018 recruiting class. Junior college transfer Antwuan Jackson may have been the most well known, but freshmen Tommy Togiai (No. 3) and Taron Vincent (No. 1) were two of the top three defensive tackles in the class. They will find himself in a defensive line…
