Any time your defense gives up 31 points, it’s a bad look. But any time your offense scores 70 points, that’s enough to take your mind off of the 31, right? No, probably not. In fact, after about 56 points, people stop paying attention to offensive points because it’s assumed that every drive will be a score due to the opposing…
Spring practice is now wrapped up for the Ohio State football team. With Saturday’s spring game in the books, we begin our long, dark journey into the ether of waiting for football season to get here. But before we go gentle into that good night, let’s at least talk a bit about what we saw from the Buckeyes on Saturday.
About eight times this season, I have wanted to start Ten Things with “It wasn’t pretty, but…” and I think I have always gone in a different direction because I’m worried I have already written those lines. Or maybe I was just saving them for the bowl game. This was a game dominated on the scoreboard by Ohio State, but the scoreboard…
What can we learn from something that happens every year? Good question. Ohio State took Michigan’s best shot on Saturday, but finished the game with a 31-6 barrage that put the Wolverines away. Michigan fans may argue that that was their best shot, but this was The Game, and you always get each team’s best shot.
Let’s just get this out of the way, there is nothing that can be learned from a game against this Illinois team one week before the Buckeyes play Michigan. But since we kind of always have to learn something after a game, we will soldier on because that’s just what we do. So what did we learn from Ohio State’s 52-14 win over Illinois?
If you would have predicted a 48-3 win over Michigan State for Ohio State, it is likely that you would have been asked to pee in a cup shortly thereafter. While Saturday’s outcome was surprising, it wasn’t unbelievable. After all, with this Buckeye team, any outcome is seemingly possible, so we can’t be overly shocked by anything we see the rest…
This is usually where I’ll put the Woody Hayes quote about getting the hell kicked out of you being a great soul cleanser, but it feels like I’ve gone to that well too many times of late. The fact that I even have to go to that well is a pretty glaring sign of where things stand for the Ohio State football program at the moment.
Ohio State hosted Penn State this past Saturday and the two teams held a rousing game of pigskin. It was really quite the spectacle. People came from all around to witness the contest. The Buckeyes came away with the 39-38 win over the No. 2 Nittany Lions, and while the victory was plenty, Ohio State also came away with control of their…
Sorry for the delay in getting this posted, but it turns out that Nebraska is a really long drive. Of course, the term long drive is pretty fitting considering Ohio State’s success on offense Saturday night. They had long drive after long drive, scoring on six drives of at least 70 yards. What did we learn from the Buckeyes’ 56-14 win at Nebraska?
It’s a pretty good sign when you can make as many mistakes as Ohio State did and still secure a 62-14 win over a Maryland team that could be headed for a bowl game this year. The Buckeyes weren’t the only ones making mistakes in this one, but they were still able to overcome every error made. Dominance has its virtues.
Finally got back from Rutgers and now I’m home to write this week’s Ten Things. I’ve done so much driving this weekend that I don’t really remember what we learned. It’s a good thing I take copious notes, though. Ohio State went into Rutgers and dominated the Scarlet Knights exactly as they should have, and precisely how few truly expected…
