It took all of 10 practices for Ohio State freshman defensive end Chase Young to lose his black stripe, signifying his official welcome to the OSU football team.
On Wednesday, Young became the fourth member of the 2017 recruiting class to lose his stripe, joining redshirt sophomore cornerback Kendall Sheffield, running back J.K. Dobbins, and safety Isaiah Pryor.
Young is the first non-early enrollee to have his black stripe removed, which is a very good indication of how impressive he has been early on.
“Oh man, Chase is gonna be good,” left tackle Jamarco Jones said earlier in the week. “He’s still a freshman, so he’s still learning, but he’s going to be really good.”
Young is a 6-foot-5 260-pound true freshman from DeMatha Catholic High School in Maryland. He was an Army All-American and was named the 2016 Washington Post All-Met Defensive Player of the Year following a 2016 season where he recorded 37 tackles for loss and 19 sacks. He also forced five fumbles.
