The Buckeyes are expected to receive a signed letter of intent from Pickerington North defensive end Alex Williams on Wednesday. The school’s official Twitter account tweeted out on Tuesday that he would be signing with Ohio State.

Williams, who is currently committed to West Virginia, is a 3-star defensive end in the 247Sports Composite and is ranked the No. 32 weakside defensive end in the nation. He also holds offers from Iowa State and Virginia.

Williams (6-6 250) was named Honorable Mention All-State this past season following a year where he amassed 38 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.

Given his size, there is also a possibility he could get a look at tight end for the Buckeyes.

Defensive end is a definite need in this recruiting cycle, and following the decommitment of 5-star prospect Brenton Cox, the Buckeyes had to expand their search a bit. That search ended in their backyard with an offer to Williams.

On the field, Williams is a defensive lineman with tremendous burst and initial quickness. He plays inside and out and uses his quickness to knife between blockers. He is also very strong and able to use a bull rush. When he is not able to get to the quarterback, he is very good about getting his hands up and knocking passes down.

His size and ability to play anywhere along the defensive line is reminiscent of former Buckeye defensive lineman Doug Worthington.

Up next for the Buckeyes on the defensive line will be to secure a commitment from 4-star Cleveland Heights defensive end Tyreke Smith at next month’s Under Armour All-American Game.
