Buckeyes Earn No. 3 seed, Play George Washington in Opening Round

Ohio State and George Washington will be the second game on Saturday at approximately 1:30 p.m.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s basketball team will be making its fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and this year, its tournament run will begin at home. The Buckeyes have earned a No. 3 seed and will play host to George Washington in the opening round on Friday at approximately 1:30 p.m.

That game will follow a game between No. 6 seed LSU and No. 11 seed Central Michigan. The winners will then meet on Monday evening. All three games will be played at historic St. John Arena.

The Buckeyes are making their 25th NCAA Tournament appearance and have an all-time record of 28-24. OSU has made 11 Sweet 16 appearances which includes each of the last two seasons. That marked the first back-to-back appearances since the run of five-straight appearances from 1985-89. The Buckeyes have advanced to the Elite Eight three times with its best run being a runner-up finish in 1993.

George Washington won four games last week to claim the A-10 Tournament title and earn that conference’s automatic berth. GW was 19-13 this season and will be making its 18th NCAA Tournament appearance.

This will be the 12th time that the Buckeyes will host NCAA Tournament opening round games at St. John Arena. Ohio State 13-2 when hosting NCAA Tournament games and has won six-straight games. The last two were wins over Buffalo and West Virginia in the first two rounds of the 2016 tournament.

Head coach Kevin McGuff is making his fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance with the Buckeyes and his 10th appearance overall as a head coach. He guided Xavier to the tournament six times from 2003-11 with a run to the Elite Eight in 2010.

TICKETS

All Session and single session tickets for the NCAA Women’s Basketball 1st and 2nd Rounds will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the OSU Athletic Ticket Office, online at ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000.  All Session tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for students, youth and seniors. Single session tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for students, youth and seniors, and $10 groups of 10 or more when purchased in advanced (service charges may apply).  College students can purchase $10 tickets at the door with a valid college ID. Ohio State women’s basketball season ticket holders will receive detailed instructions regarding purchasing all-session ticket packages Monday night via e-mail to the address on record in their ticket account.
