In what is a tremendously busy weekend on the Ohio State recruiting front, an offer being extended to Dublin (Coffman) running back Michael Drennen II should not be glossed over.
Drennen (5-11 187) tweeted out the news about his offer, which now gives him offers from OSU, Michigan, Louisville, Minnesota, Indiana, Saginaw Valley State, and others.
Ranked the No. 17 running back in the 2020 247Sports Composite, Drennen has spent much of his time in the slot, but also runs the ball out of the backfield. He is comfortable in either role and shows considerable ease in tracking the football as a receiver.
As a runner, Drennen shares some similarities with former Buckeye running back-turned H-back Jordan Hall.
As you would expect from someone who goes to school 20 minutes from Ohio Stadium, Drennen has visited Ohio State a number of times, but Friday’s visit finally brought an offer along with it.
Drennen is now the fourth Ohio prospect in the 2020 recruiting cycle with an OSU offer. He joins Cincinnati St. Xavier offensive lineman Paris Johnson, Cincinnati Princeton defensive end Darrion Henry, and Akron Hoban linebacker DeaMonte Trayanum. Those four are also the top four players in the state of Ohio according to the 247Sports Composite.
Johnson is a 5-star prospect and the No. 8 player in the nation overall. With 10 predictions in, here is what his Crystal Ball looks like currently.
Henry is the No. 4 strongside defensive end and No. 69 player in the nation overall. He was at Ohio State this month for a 1-day summer camp and impressed everyone in attendance. His Crystal Ball currently reads 100% OSU with seven predictions submitted.
Drennen is the No. 3 player in the state, and with five predictions in, Ohio State holds the 80% to 20% Crystal Ball advantage over the University of Michigan.
Trayanum is a 5-foot-11 outside linebacker (No. 11, No. 187 overall) who already holds offers from OSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, and West Virginia. More offers will continue to find him.
With seven predictions in, here is what his Crystal Ball looks like at the moment.

The Sidney OH star …..has he been offered? Can’t think of his name, but was outstanding on Offense. Help me someone.
I must have been confused because I thought that he already held an offer. He absolutely has a spot on the Buckeye roster. Good young man people can look to as an example of how to get the job done. In the class room, in the neighborhood and, on the football field. As a potential H-Back he is smooth out of his breaks and that step creates separation. He’s not a blazer, but he is fast enough and will get faster. One of the comments I heard from a camp was that he doesn’t tip his cuts with his eyes. He cuts with his feet based on what he’s already seen before the snap. Curtis Samuel also has/had that skill. Campbell relies on speed during the play. Hill relies on crisp route and blocking assignment trust, McCall is just a nasty football player who brings that nasty to every play and mixes it with sure hands, instant acceleration and a runningbacks heart. I suspect we’ll see the same skill set in Jaelen Gill. Of them all, I think if Michael commits, he’s a photocopy of Curtis Samuel.
