Chris Holtmann just scored the biggest commitment he has landed yet as Ohio State’s basketball coach.
D.J. Carton, a 5-Star point guard in the 2019 recruiting class just tweeted that he was committing to the Buckeyes.
“I am proud to announce I will be continuing my education and basketball career at The Ohio State University,” he wrote on Saturday.
Carton is a 6-foot-1 point guard from Bettendorf, Iowa.
He rates as the 2nd-best point guard in the 2019 recruiting class, and the No. 21 player overall in the 247 Composite.
Michigan had been considered the favorite to land his pledge for several months, but a recent visit to Ohio State apparently changed everything.
Carton also holds offers from schools like Indiana and Wisconsin. He had previously identified the Buckeyes, Hoosiers, and Wolverines as his three finalists.
His commitment moves OSU’s 2019 class up the No. 4 in the nation. That is particularly impressive because the Buckeyes currently hold just two commits.
Carton and 4-Star small forward Alonzo Gaffney both rank among the top-30 players in the class regardless of position.
OSU’s class is just a fraction of a point behind No. 3 Kentucky. The other two schools ahead of them in the ratings both have more than two commits.
