Five-star Bettendorf, Iowa point guard D.J. Carton is taking an official visit to Ohio State on Wednesday and Thursday, with a decision to follow in the next couple of weeks.

Carton (6-2 195) is the No. 17 player in the 2019 recruiting class per Rivals and the No. 4 point guard. He is the No. 21 player overall in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 2 point guard.

The official visit will be the third for Carton, who recently announced his final top three of Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio State. He visited Michigan and Indiana in late June, so this will be his final official visit before making his decision known.

“The reason I cut it to three, going into it, I had a feeling of who my three were,” Carton told Peegs.com. “I just wanted to be respectful of the coaches going into the July evaluations. I know that’s a big time for them to evaluate players. I wanted to be respectful of their time so they can move on and find other players.”

What will he be looking to do on his visit to Ohio State?

“It’s about getting that feeling around the players, seeing how comfortable I am around them,” he said. “That’s what I’m going to do on my visit there. I’m going to enjoy it, reflect on everything and hopefully make a decision.”

Carton will have some company on his visit, as the Buckeyes’ lone 2019 commit Alonzo Gaffney tweeted out Tuesday night that he had just arrived on the Ohio State campus.

Buckeye head coach Chris Holtmann will be rolling out the red carpet for Carton, but more importantly, he will be showing what kind of players the program has brought in over the last few years.

Carton is looking for a place where he will be comfortable, and Ohio State will attempt to show him that Columbus is where he belongs.

With 12 predictions submitted, here is what his Crystal Ball looks like currently.

  1. If this guy is a lock to scUM, why is there an article about him?

    1. Because he’s on Ohio State’s campus and the Buckeyes are in need of a point guard.

    2. Who said he is a lock? He may be likely to go elsewhere but if it were a done deal, he wouldn’t be at osu.

      1. Yeah, I don’t understand this “crystal ball” nonsense. As far as I can tell it’s a culmination of the gut instinct of recruiting journalists and the reading between the lines of the recruit’s quotes/tweets.

So clearly, it’s not science and eventually kids are going to figure out how to game the system for their own amusement.

        1. It’s not science, and most of the time it’s a domino effect where people parrot other people’s picks because of an article that gets written with quotes or somebody tweets something or posts something on a message board.
