Five-star Bettendorf, Iowa point guard D.J. Carton has trimmed his list of schools to three finalists, and the Buckeyes have made the cut along with Indiana and Michigan. The Wolverines are the current Crystal Ball favorites with 10 of 11 predictions pointing at the Maize and Blue.

Carton (6-2 195) is the No. 2 point guard in the 2019 recruiting class per the 247Sports Composite and the No. 24 player overall.

He had previously released a top six featuring the three teams above, along with Iowa, Marquette, and Xavier.

Carton told the Des Moines Register this spring that a decision could be coming later this summer.

“My parents always say it’s that gut feeling,” Carton said. “All these places have nice facilities, all the coaching staffs are nice. But it’s just that gut feeling of where you feel most comfortable going. I’m just going to have to keep going on these visits and find that in myself.

“It’s going to be tough (to trim my choices), just because I’ve built such good relationships with these coaches. All these universities are so successful and have such great legacies. It’s going to be tough.”

Carton was a first-team All-State selection this past season.

The Buckeyes currently have one player committed in the 2019 recruiting class in 4-star power forward Alonzo Gaffney. Gaffney is ranked the No. 7 player at his position and the No. 27 player overall.
