Highlights From Ohio State’s First Fall Scrimmage

The Ohio State football team took the field Saturday at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center for their first full-squad scrimmage of the fall.

Fall camp just started a week ago, but the start of the OSU football season is closer than you think.

In fact, the Buckeyes will already be done with their first regular season game against Oregon State three weeks from right now.

Today, three players earned the right to lose their black stripes. But the more exciting action happened on the field.

The practice was closed to the media, but OSU has put out a number of highlights on social media that provide some insight into how things are looking.

Several plays feature young Buckeyes getting their first chance to really make an impact.

Freshman defensive end Alex Williams caught freshman OT Nicholas Petit-Frere flat-footed on one rep and made the most of it.

Redshirt freshman QB Tate Martell hooked up with sophomore WR Jaylen Harris for a score.

Sophomore safety Amir Riep is in the mix for a starting spot opposite Jordan Fuller. He had a nice interception of starting quarterback Dwayne Haskins today.

However, Haskins had a memorable moment of his own, connecting with his roommate, WR Austin Mack, on a long touchdown against freshman CB Tyreke Johnson.

Haskins and Mack had less success going after CB Jeffrey Okudah. The highly-touted sophomore has shown up in several of these highlight segments this fall, and is clearly pushing to earn a spot in the starting lineup.

  1. Criticize him for his interception and ignore that beautiful pass to Austin Mack?

  2. The Spring game was in no way indicative of Tate’s ability. Don’t be surprised when he WOWs peeps when he’s in.

  3. Great pass to a wide open defender by Haskins….did he not know what team he was on or who his receivers are??? Is this indicative of what his play during the season will be??? We want Burrow, we want Burrow….lol
