Freshman walkon wide receiver Xavier Johnson lost his black stripe after practice on Wednesday, officially becoming a member of the OSU football team.
Johnson is a Cincinnati native. He chose an offer to be a preferred walk-on at Ohio State over scholarship offers from schools like Iowa State, Cincinnati, and every MAC program in Ohio.
He was a 3-star prospect as a recruit, ranked as the No. 171 wide receiver and 1141st-best player in the 2018 class.
In the video announcing his stripe removal, cornerback Kendall Sheffield peels the black stripe off of Johnson’s helmet.
Director of Player Personnel Ryan Stamper calls Johnson “Professor X” and says he “has been making plays all over the field. Everybody knows him and is glad he’s a Buckeye.”
