Kamryn Babb Suffers Another Serious Knee Injury

Kamryn Babb Ohio State football wide receiver

Kamryn Babb, a redshirt freshman wide receiver for Ohio State, suffered a knee injury during spring practice and could miss the 2019 season according to multiple reports.

The news was first reported by Letterman Row.

Babb suffered a torn left ACL in June 2018 and missed his entire true freshman season. He was back on the practice field this spring wearing an orange limited contact jersey.

This is the third year in a row that Babb has suffered a serious knee injury. He tore his right ACL in August 2017, and missed his senior season of high school football.

Even with that injury, Babb was still rated as one of the top wide receivers in the 2018 recruiting class. He was a 4-star prospect, considered the No. 13 receiver in his class.

Now, he’s in danger of missing a third straight season. He also sat out about half of his junior season with another injury.

Babb was not projected to see a lot of action in 2019 in the Buckeyes’ crowded wide receiver room. Ryan Day did not mention him on Saturday while running through a list of which receivers were playing at each position. But this latest injury could impact Babb’s chances to contribute in future years.

If he does have to sit out all of this season, he would return in 2020 having played in just six games in the previous four years.

It also puts another dent in the Buckeyes’ depth at the position. Another redshirt freshman wideout, L’Christian Smith, decided to leave the program last week.

OSU wide receivers coach Brian Hartline is scheduled to speak with the media on Wednesday.

More information on Babb’s injury and its impact on the Buckeyes should be available then.

  1. Poor kid. Reminds me a bit of Johnny Dixon’s star-crossed career. Here’s wishing the young man a speedy and FULL recovery!
