Redshirt freshman walk-on quarterback Danny Vanatsky and true freshman linebacker Craig Young had their black stripes removed following practice on Monday.
The removal of the stripes signifies that they have impressed the Ohio State coaches enough to be considered full-fledged members of the Buckeye football team.
Vanatsky walked on to the team last year from Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy. As a senior, he was named second-team all-state and the Miami Valley Conference Player of the Year following a season where he threw for 1,984 yards and 28 touchdowns.
For the Buckeyes, Vanatsky has been a valuable member of the scout team.
You can see his black stripe removed by big brother Chris Chugunov in the video below.
The second de-striping came from freshman linebacker Craig Young.
Young came to Ohio State as one of the nation’s top athletes in the 2019 class. He was a 3-star prospect out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he caught 35 passes for 700 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior at Wayne High School.
He has run a personal best 10.7 in the 100 meters.
Young’s position wasn’t totally known when he signed, but he quickly settled in at linebacker where he has impressed his coaches with his athleticism and work ethic.
Young is now the 11th member of the 2019 recruiting class to lose his black stripe.
