The Ryan Day era will officially kick off Saturday as the Ohio State Buckeyes face Florida Atlantic in the 2019 season opener.
Day, of course, is a familiar face to OSU fans and players, having served in the program for two seasons under Urban Meyer before taking over as head coach following the 2019 Rose Bowl.
He went 3-0 as the interim coach during Meyer’s suspension in 2018, and showed the school’s leadership that he was up to the task of running one of the biggest programs in the nation.
Starting Saturday, he gets a chance to prove it to the rest of the world.
This week, OSU released a trailer for the FAU game, narrated by Day.
“You have my word that I’m going to give everything I have to continue the tradition of excellence and winning that this program has enjoyed during its storied career,” Day says.
He then shares his vision for what the team should look like during games.
“On the field, you can expect a team that’s going to be tough, that’s going to have great energy, and that will be creative. On offense, we will continue to force defenses to cover the entire field.”
Day promises that the defense will be “aggressive, sound, and simple” so that players can play fast. If you remember the 2018 defense, it should be somewhat reassuring that a philosophical change has apparently occurred.
