Ohio State has released its weekly availability report and once again the Buckeyes will be without starting defensive end Jonathon Cooper.
Cooper went down with an ankle injury in camp and no timetable has been given on his return, though teammates have said he would be back this year.
Ohio State has two categories on their availability list: Players who won’t play and players who are game-time decisions. This week, there are no game-time decisions.
Once again, fifth-year senior H-back CJ Saunders is out, which affected OSU’s plans a little bit last week. With Ohio State running so many two tight end sets, however, they are well-equipped to handle such an absence. Redshirt freshman Jaelen Gill will continue to get snaps in his place as well.
Sophomore defensive tackle Taron Vincent is also out again this week. No information has been given about his injury or the severity.
The defensive tackle position should get back to some semblance of normality this week, however, as senior Jashon Cornell is expected to be back at his three technique tackle spot after playing very well at defensive end last week.
The reason for his return inside is because sophomore defensive ends Tyreke Smith and Tyler Friday — who were game-time decisions last week and weren’t quite ready — are now off the list entirely and able to pick up the load. In fact, Friday is listed as the starter on this week’s depth chart.
Senior tight end Rashod Berry is back this week after being out last week. His return makes an already deep group of tight ends even deeper.
