Redshirt sophomore quarterback Dwayne Hasksins has been rewriting the OSU football record book all season. Now, he just added a big one to his growing list of school records.
Haskins surpassed Joe Germaine’s single-season passing record of 3,330 from 1998.
Haskins hit wide receiver Terry McLaurin on a 68-yard bomb down the right sideline to set the mark.
He already holds the single-season OSU records for passing completions and attempts, and is closing in on the touchdowns record as well.
J.T. Barrett’s 35 touchdown passes in 2017 is the record for the moment.
Haskins came into the Maryland game needing 51 yards and three touchdowns to break those records.
The crazy thing is not that Haskins set those records, but that he still could play as many as four more games this season.
At the very least, he’ll have another regular season game and a bowl game to extend his lead in those categories.
If the Buckeyes can earn a spot in the Big Ten Championship Game and potentially the College Football Playoff, Haskins could have almost another third of a season to seemingly put the new marks totally out of reach for future OSU quarterbacks.
Here’s a look at where he stood in the OSU passing record books entering the Maryland game.
Single Game Passing Yards
OSU Record: 470 by Dwayne Haskins (2018 vs. Purdue)
Haskins: 470 vs. Purdue. His owns the 1st, and 3rd, and 4th-most yards ever thrown for in a single game.
Single Season Passing Yards
OSU Record: 3,330 by Joe Germaine (1998)
Haskins: 3,280 through ten games. He is now in second place, just 50 behind Germaine. Assuming he doesn’t miss the flight to Maryland, he should break the record early next week.
Career Passing Yards
OSU Record: 9,434 by J.T. Barrett
Haskins: 3,845 so far. He is currently in 12th place all-time, between Craig Krenzel and Terrelle Pryor.
Single Game Pass Attempts
OSU Record: 73 by Dwayne Haskins (2018 vs. Purdue)
Haskins: 73 vs. Purdue
Single Season Pass Attempts
OSU Record: 386 by Dwayne Haskins
Haskins: 386 so far. He beat Germaine’s record (384) late in the 4th quarter against MSU.
Career Pass Attempts
OSU Record: 1,211 by J.T. Barrett
Haskins: 443. Unless you think he’s going to play until he’s a fifth-year senior, this one is probably safe. Jim Karsatos is in 10th place with 629.
Single Game Pass Completions
OSU Record: 49 by Dwayne Haskins (2018 vs. Indiana)
Haskins: 49 vs. Purdue
Single Season Pass Completions
OSU Record: 266 by Dwayne Haskins (2018)

I completely get the frustration with the defense believe me, but getting sick and tired of all the whiny in every freakin article on every single thing, even if it is a good thing like this one..i’m not naive and hope we have a new DC next year..I live in *ichigan and been a longtime fan (born and raised in great state of Ohio)..i can tell you some of you whiny downers sound liek the weak crybaby scUM fans…seriously…
like*
Wrong, Todd… the thing that separates legitimate OSU fans from scum is that we can actually point out flaws and discuss them, rather than referring to how good we used to be at it 80 years ago. You’re infected, been up there too long.
Where’s Brett McMurphy? We need him to write some crap about Schiano!
Anyway we can buy Schiano a way way ticket from Maryland to his favorite vacation destination? The only chance we have at a better defense is zero coaching this week. Let them figure it out on their own. They can’t do.any worse.
Like all executives that value staff loyalty too much Myer and his staff should all lose their jobs. Especially after such a poor job of game planning, motivation, play calling and game adjustments on defense and offense.
My goal has always try to be positive about the Buckeyes. That is not possible watching today’s game at Maryland. Maryland deserves to win the game. OSU has been out played and really out coached. How could they not have been ready for the fake punt? Three or four turnovers and missed tackles, too many to count. We were not ready to play and regardless of the final outcome, we are not a playoff caliber team.
Urban better get a new DC. I’d hire Fick as DC and “coach in waiting”. Let him work with Urban until he retires! Hire him after the season is over, let him coach the bowl game if we get in one. Harry
Luke Fickell is a Head Coach. Why would he go backwards and be a defensive coordinator at any school?
Why is the focus on Haskins setting records when we’re getting shredded on defense? And getting the hell kicked out of us by Maryland?
Who cares on this pathetic team
Agreed, Tom. Talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees…
oh seriously you bunch of whiners…this story was JUST about Haskins breaking records and he played very good–even running–today…yes the defense and the defensive schemes suck–worst back 7 in many years…i get that–but im sick of people like longtime fan and others just whining and complaining about everything EVERY article–this was JUSt about Haskins and the game wasn’t even done….whiniest group of OSU fans i’ve seen in a long time–and YES i am frustrated as heck and we need a new DC and LB coach..i’ve been a diehard Buckeye fan for over 3 decades but enough of some of the peeps on here with their ridiculous attitude on EVERYTHING..thank goodness you people aren’t any sort of coach on the sidelines discouraging a team that fought back hard despite some of the BS.
Thanks for singling me out, Brutus! I just LOVE debating the double digit IQ crowd. Let’ start by crushing the core of your idiot reply:
1) I have not, and do not, complain in EVERY article. Your comment is absurd and provably wrong (but don’t let little things like fact and accuracy stop you).
2) I don’t want to be a coach- I want the guys paid to be the coaches, TO COACH.
3) The nature of the article was silly. Taking note of an individual feat in the middle of a train wreck was a poor choice. Does this mean I wasn’t rooting like heck during the game? Of course not. I just didn’t take the time to call friends in the middle of a dumpster fire and say, “Get the marshmallows ready, at least we can make Smores”. Nice feat by Haskins, the timing and primacy of the article NOT.
Brutusrocks……I am guessing you have a room full of participation trophies, and “Awesome Try ” ribbons and medals. The expectation level for this program is extremely high, and we are not the ones that set it. When those expectations are not even close to being met, and no apparent effort to improve…..negative criticism is the EXPECTED RESULT….thats just the way it works. If you don’t understand the concept, then thats your right, but trying to convince us that the actual reality of this “off the rails” team has any positives to it …and then want to call guys out on their opinions, may just show your ignorance…no offense
I don’t give a damn if you like it or not, if I want to bitch about lousy coaching, piss poor play and a ridiculous fawning press then I will. So if you don’t like it go soak your ass in a bucket of ice water and cool down.
Agree who cares, we need leaders more than passing records.
