The Buckeyes have taken advantage of defenses of late by resorting to the bubble screen to the wide side of the field for easy gains. They have run this out of a variety of formations, including Jet Motion. As Tony stated in a recent episode of Accost The Field, this is Urban Meyer’s version of “Dave”, as it is a simple read and nearly…
Ohio State’s offensive identity, or lack thereof, has been a big topic of discussion following the first two games this season. Following a 38-7 win over Army on Saturday, however, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the offense moving forward. The Buckeyes rushed for 270 yards, averaging 8.4 yards per carry, but also passed…
It is incredible to watch a program use the run to set up effective and manageable passes like Army does. A program that knows its identity, as well as its deficiencies, yet makes them work together to control the line of scrimmage and time of possession. With such contrasting styles of offense on display this weekend, there are…
The Army Black Knights bring their triple-option rushing attack to Columbus on Saturday following a win last week over MAC opponent Buffalo. Running behind a veteran offensive line that has combined for 77 starts, the Black Knights have already rushed for 835 yards, averaging 7.4 yards per rushing attempt. Last season…
Before I personally turn the page and begin watching film on Army and UNLV (yay!) I wanted to watch the receivers more closely to try and understand the crux of the offensive problems from all angles. While I am undeniably a J.T. Barrett apologist, I will admit he has his own trust issues to work through, including trusting…
It’s officially football season when I spend more time than is necessary figuring out ways to defeat the opponent. Urban Meyer must have lost my number. None-the-less, here are a few plays that could make a big difference Saturday night. The Sooners, like most teams, look to run the ball on first down to stay ahead of the chains.
The 2016 season saw Oklahoma get off to a slow start, losing two of their first three games before righting their ship. The Sooners rattled off 10 straight wins after a home loss to Ohio State, including a 35-19 victory in the Sugar Bowl over Auburn. The Sooners return a number of key players, including quarterback Baker Mayfield…
The Ohio State Buckeyes spent nearly the entire off-season working on improving the passing game in order to enhance the offense. Drag routes, shallow crossing routes, and RPO’s (Run Pass Options) were installed to create passing lanes and get the ball into the playmakers’ hands. Thursday night, the Buckeyes took their new…
Last season, Indiana was a balanced team (49% pass/51% Run), but without the presence of an established running back the Hoosiers will need to rely on their senior quarterback to move the chains. In terms of tendencies, look for Indiana to align in predominately 11 Personnel, which utilizes one running back and one tight end…
Coming off a demoralizing shutout loss in last season’s College Football Playoff, followed by the annual exodus of talent to the NFL Draft that sweeps through Columbus each year, the most polarizing discussion surrounding the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, oddly enough, is the backup quarterback situation.
As we continue our positional breakdowns of players who could step into prominent roles this season, it is now time to take a look at the Ohio State running game. With last year’s leading rusher Mike Weber returning, the Buckeyes will look to replace the production left from the 700+ yards Curtis Samuel contributed.
