This past weekend was pretty crazy around college football but it didn’t seem to affect the Big Ten pecking order too much. There were a few close calls with Michigan and their big brother Michigan State, but that is about it. Really, outside of Rutgers getting a win there wasn’t too much shock value in the Midwest. With everyone at or around…
A proud son of Ohio, hailing from Point Pleasant, former Civil War general and the 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant would be a strong advocate for as much advanced scouting of the enemy as possible before a battle was engaged. While I have the utmost confidence in Urban Meyer and his strong staff of assistants…
Well folks, this weekend was a success in more ways that one. I had made a promise on The Sons of Schmidt that if Ohio State lost to Maryland…I would personally ban myself from Ohio Stadium. Thank the good lord that I don’t have to break that promise because SPOILER ALERT…I totally would have. Another weekend passed by…
Shannon Sommers and Chip Minnich are back to give some of their quick thoughts on the Maryland game. J.P. Scott of Athlon Sports joins the guys to help break down the Nebraska Cornhuskers. They discuss the offense and defense but also touch on the Mike Riley situation in Lincoln. Also some recommendations for bars or restaurants…
No man is left behind…unless that man in our co-host Brandon who ventured off to Columbus this weekend to watch the Buckeyes. But have no fear, Sons of Schmidt fans, your hosts Mike & Michael filled in as valiantly as you would expect. That means Michael brought his A game, much like the Buckeyes did verses Maryland, and Mike was just kind of there, much like Maryland.
I’ve come to realize a few things over the first five weeks of the season. First, outside the top four teams (OSU, PSU, Wisky, and UM) and the bottom two teams (Illinois and Rutgers), it is almost impossible to judge who is actually good or not. Secondly, much like Tony has no idea when I’m turning this piece in every week…none of us…

For most of us, the only turtles we are familiar with wear various colors of cloth over their eyes, master a martial art, and eat a lot of pizza. But since DJ Durkin left AA and took over at Maryland, he is bent on changing that for the rest of the Big Ten. This week, the Sons of Schmidt take a look at the upcoming…
We are at that point of the year where any SEC team with a pulse gets shuffled around the meaningless AP and Coaches poll to prove dominance. This week we had the privilege of watching Georgia jump up into the Top-10 because of their huge win over Mississippi State…who for some reason jumped up into the Top-20 last week…
A quick glance of Rutgers’ roster shows two Ohioans on it – former Michigan Wolverine Ross Douglas from Avon, and Columbus native Brendan Bordner. Neither player was extended a scholarship offer by Ohio State. By comparison, Ohio State lists two players from New Jersey on its roster, in safety Jordan Fuller and offensive lineman Kevin Feder.
College football began at the State University of New Jersey. On that cold November day in 1869, Rutgers defeated Princeton 6-4 in what I am sure was a barn burner. Since then? It’s mostly been all downhill for the Scarlet Knights. However, when you are among the top teams in the Big Ten, and you have things you need to work…
