Ohio State and Michigan renewed the greatest rivalry in all of sports with Jim Harbaugh’s team peaking and the Buckeyes coming off one of their sloppiest performances of the season. The Game has been owned by Ohio State since Jim Tressel took over as OSU coach in 2001 but at some point you just figure all the stars will finally align for the Wolverines.
Ohio State had no trouble handling Rutgers on Saturday but it’s fair to say it was a game that didn’t make anyone who isn’t convinced about the Buckeyes suddenly change their mind. The Buckeyes’ starters were mostly fine, although there wasn’t much in the way of explosive plays in the running game and the defense got gashed for a touchdown by the worst team in the league.
Ohio State tried really hard this week not to give me much to gripe about. For much of the game I didn’t have a whole lot of complaints. But I’m nothing if not persistent, so I stuck with it and found plenty of things to be angry about despite the ultimate 73-14 win over the Maryland Terrapins. Let’s get to what made me want to spray passersby with the hose.
The Buckeyes and Badgers met in what would have been a much bigger game if not for the Badgers stubbing their toes in Champaign last weekend. Wisconsin still presented the most difficult test to date for the Buckeyes and all Ohio State did was win by 31 points on a day with weather that made passing difficult.
