The Nebraska Cornhuskers enter this contest against the Ohio State Buckeyes ranked 43rd overall in total defense (355 yards per game) behind their new 3-4 defensive scheme, but surrendered 353 yards rushing on 49 carries (7.2 yards per carry) last week to Wisconsin. Leading tackler Aaron Williams is questionable with a neck injury.
So much of what we see on television is what also shows up in the stat column, with the exception of big hits. Though, I suppose even those show up as “stats”, you just have to look under the “Player Ejections” category underneath the attendance, referees and weather report. The topic of targeting aside, it is often the unheralded play…
Third-string quarterbacks are generally not the recipe for success, at least statistically speaking. Maryland doesn’t have much say in the matter right now, however, as they have now turned to their third-string quarterback Max Bortenschlager. Bortenschlager has played extensively in two games this season, so he does have some experience.
The upstart Maryland Terrapins enter the Horseshoe Saturday at 3-1 on the season after out-rowing the Gophers last weekend en route to a 31-24 victory. The Terps are led by a rushing attack that is churning out an average of 233 yards per game, good enough for 24th nationally. As injuries have forced Maryland to start their…
The Ohio State offense continues to evolve while taking advantage of lesser opponents over the course of the last three weeks, seemingly focusing on specific concepts each week. From creativity and tempo to completing the deep ball, each week has played out like its own chapter in an offensive playbook.
Linebackers. Most teams are looking for big, fast and strong linebackers to anchor the defense, and rightfully so. The position group is arguably the most important cog in any defensive scheme as the right blend of athletes can boost a defensive front or help minimize the exposure of a secondary. But what happens when a group is…
This week presents a challenge for the Buckeyes, but not something they haven’t already experienced so far this season. Opening in Bloomington provided a good feel for what Ohio State will experience as far as road crowds and window dressings go. The atmosphere in Piscataway will surely be exciting for the locals, so I fully expect…
Ohio State travels to the “Birthplace of College Football” on Saturday to take on the Scarlet Knights. Luckily for college football fans, they’ve expanded the length of the season well past 2 games, effectively eliminating the possibility of a 1-1 “National Champion.” Let’s just take a moment to be proud of college football for what feels…
The Ohio State offense began the season lacking creativity and misdirection, predominately in the loss to Oklahoma. But with that loss came an added emphasis on these missing concepts in the following weeks. The Buckeyes have shown an increased use in bubble motion and Run Pass Options. Versus UNLV, however, the Buckeyes…
I have been away from a decent internet connection the past few days, but found a moment to pass along a few nuggets on this week’s matchup. Finally, the Buckeyes defense can put to work the lessons learned through the first two weeks of the season. The linebackers will be able to face a more traditional offensive attack, one…
The Runnin’ Rebels stumbled out of the gates to start the season with a loss to Howard University despite being nearly 45-point favorites. They righted their ship with a victory over Idaho before a bye week last week. The Rebels have had success on the ground thus far, rushing for over 700 yards and a 7.3 yards per attempt, which is…
