At Ohio State, when a player has officially earned a starting position, his position coach calls his family to share the exciting news. It has always been an emotional moment for the parents. Sophomore left tackle Thayer Munford’s mother didn’t quite get that same experience, but her special moment was still filled with emotions and tears.
COLUMBUS — Following practice Wednesday night, a handful of Buckeye football players were made available to the media. Center Michael Jordan talked about his move from left guard, left guard Malcolm Pridgeon talks about his journey so far, left tackle Thayer Munford spoke about starting for the first time, nose…
Every season brings new breakout stars in college football, which is one of the reasons we all love it so much. And while the stars get the attention, every team needs different players to step up and fill voids. They aren’t necessarily looking at these players to become stars, they just need them to be reliable and productive.
Despite being a very talented team, the 2018 edition of the Ohio State Buckeyes still has questions up and down the line. Granted, some of the questions aren’t quite as dire at some positions as they are at others. For instance, nobody is losing sleep about the Buckeye running backs, but there are still questions that…
Ohio State held its third practice of the fall on Sunday, although like the first two, it was still closed to the media. The team has a day off on Monday, and will be back at it Tuesday. The school has said that it will have an update sometime on Monday about when practices may reopen to reporters. Prince opened the spring at left tackle, but did close it that way. Instead, Prince was back at the right tackle spot where he had started for the previous two seasons, and…
I am now in possession of two preseason college football magazines. My annual process is to buy Athlon’s B1G issue, because that’s usually the first one on the shelves. Then a week or two later, Lindy’s national magazine will appear, and I’ll purchase that one as well. Those two will then tide me over until Phil Steele’s tome…
Ohio State offensive line coach Greg Studrawa doesn’t know yet exactly what his starting offensive line is going to be this year. The good news for him is that he may have more legitimate options than any OSU offensive line coach in decades. The Buckeyes went about replacing All-Big Ten left tackle Jamarco Jones and…
It may be a completely different topic, but the title of the documentary could be applied to the pending decision by Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and his coaching staff on who will be the starting quarterback for the 2018 season. More on that momentarily. Throughout the spring practices, I ranked position…
Last weekend’s Spring Game provided an opportunity for Buckeye football fans to get a glimpse at the key position battles that have played out throughout Spring practice. While the Quarterback battle will grab most of the headlines, the search for a new Left Tackle could arguably be the most important position…
