Everybody loves college football. If somebody tells you they don’t love it, they’re wrong. We look forward to particular games and watching certain players. Each week we get to see something new. That is especially true if you think about the sheer number of individual matchups there are to watch this season. And that’s just the Ohio State games.
With five new assistant coaches on Ryan Day’s Ohio State staff, there was some unfamiliarity that had to be resolved. When they new coaches were brought on, however, the staff was out recruiting for the first month that they were all “together.” Eventually, things settled down for a few weeks before spring ball began and they’ve settled again since…
Any time the starting offensive line in the spring is entirely different than the starting lineup the season before, there are going to be concerns. That was the situation this past spring for the Buckeyes as they lost four starters and were without starting left tackle Thayer Munford due to a back injury. Despite the absence of Munford, there were still…
Wyatt Davis has been Ohio State’s starting right guard since December of last year, which means he has now been a starter for over six months. That may not sound like a lot, but Davis has now been through over 30 practices with the ones. Even though he has only started twice, those games were both in the postseason last year, and they…
When the Buckeyes finally kick off the 2019 season against Florida Atlantic on August 31, they will be doing it with at least four new starters on the offensive line. The Bucks lost three starters and have another sitting out the spring with a bad back. So how will they replace Michael Jordan, Malcolm Pridgeon, and…
Ohio State started a pair of fifth-year seniors last year at guard in Malcolm Pridgeon and Demetrius Knox, which means that they must now both be replaced. Last season was the first as a starter for Pridgeon, and it produced mixed results. When he was good, the entire offense was better for it. Consistency was an issue…
For every freshman, experiencing the first workout or first practice is an eye-opening experience. At Ohio State, freshmen can no longer get by with just being bigger or stronger or faster than the players they are competing against. Sure, those things help, but until players get the necessary technique down, they will be at a disadvantage.
First, the good news: The Buckeyes will return four players with at least some starting experience. Thayer Munford was solid as the starting left tackle all year. If he returns healthy from an injury that kept him out of the Rose Bowl, he should be a good building block for the line.
