Two of Ohio State’s top remaining 2020 recruiting targets have set their respective commitment dates and Buckeye fans won’t have to wait too much longer to find out where 5-star running back Bijan Robinson and 4-star safety Lathan Ransom will be playing their college ball.
Robinson and Ransom are teammates at Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, Arizona and both are Top 100 players.
Robinson, the No. 4 running back in the nation and the No. 22 player overall, has set his commitment date for August 2, and he will reveal his decision via Instagram according to 247Sports’ Blair Angulo.
Ransom, the No. 4 safety in the nation — and top safety on the West Coast, is the No. 76 player in the nation and tweeted on Tuesday that he would be releasing his commitment video on July 16.
Ohio State is favored to land both players.
Twelve Crystal Ball projections have been put in for Robinson and nine of them have been cast for the Buckeyes. Of the 15 predictions placed on Ransom, 14 of them are pointing in OSU’s direction.
If Ohio State lands both players, that would give them commitments from three of the top five prospects in the state of Arizona. Robinson is the No. 2 player in the state, while Ransom is the No. 5 player.
Quarterback Jack Miller — the No. 2 pro-style QB in the nation, No. 4 player in the state, and the No. 71 player overall — committed to the Buckeyes last July.
Five-star cornerback Kelee Ringo is the No. 1 player in Arizona and the No. 9 player in the nation. Two weeks ago, Ringo put OSU in his top five, but the Buckeyes are seen as a very long shot.
Ohio State is looking to take two running backs in the 2020 class and Robinson would be an ideal start. Florida all-purpose back Jaylan Knighton continues to look like a real possibility as well.
Ransom, meanwhile, could join a secondary that now includes cornerbacks Lejond Cavazos and Clark Phillips, as well as dynamic Michigan athlete Cameron Martinez, who could end up just about anywhere.
Even with a commitment from Ransom, however, the Buckeyes will not be done looking for defensive backs in this cycle. They will continue to work on 5-star LSU cornerback commit Elias Ricks, for instance.
