Two-Minute Drill: Ryan Day ‘Lightning Round’ Updates — Nov. 21

Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day

COLUMBUS — Ohio State head coach Ryan Day met with reporters following his radio show on Thursday afternoon. He answered some rapid-fire questions from the assembled media, speaking mostly about this weekend’s upcoming game against Penn State. Here are the highlights of what he had to say.

+ You don’t have the best perspective when calling plays from the sideline, but you get a better feel for the game.

+ They will still be smart with running Justin Fields.

+ It’s hard to enjoy a noon game and get home and spend time with family on a big recruiting weekend like this. The recruits know they won’t get a bunch of face time until Sunday morning.

+ It’s on the position coaches to let recruits know that this is a big game, so there won’t be as much time spent with the recruits. They sent letters to the visitors letting them know that as well.

+ Day wanted to see last week if JK Dobbins wanted to play in the second half, Dobbins said he did. Day still decided against it. He just wanted to make sure Dobbins was still hungry for more.

+ There is a lot to improve on and they will be challenged this week like no other week.

+ The weather doesn’t concern them. They look at it and plan ahead and deal with it. “Whatever it is, it is and we’ll handle it.”

+ Senior Day walking is typically just for the seniors who have put four or five years into the program.

+ Day loves Al Washington’s energy and excitement. “That’s what we want with all of our coaches.”

+ Loud crowds make life difficult on the offensive line. They have to go non-verbal, which makes the offensive line slower, which isn’t great against a guy like Chase Young.

+ Justin Hilliard won’t be going through the senior day walk. He has interest in coming back.

+ CJ Saunders is interested in coming back for a sixth year as well.
